Healthy Eating Chat Part 1

Recommended Posts

We're doing well back in the real world of food, so far. I've lost another 4lb. After doing LL my appitite is virtually non existant so it's really easy not to over eat. I'm sticking to around 800 calories a day at the minute, a big increase after the 500 on LL!

Apart from the tiny portions we're eating a variety of fish and lean meats with plenty of veggies and salads. I cooked a lovely virtually fat free chicken tikka massala last night, it was yummy.

I marinated some skinless chicken in 0% fat greek yoghurt, lemon juice and tikka spice mix for a few hours then baked it in the oven whilst I made the sauce. The sauce was 1 onion "fried" in vegetable stock with 2 tsp of tikka spice mix and a tin of chopped tomatoes. Then stirred in some vitually fat free creme fraiche at the end just before adding the cooked meat.

It was less than 200 calories per portion and hard to tell from some of the jar sauces that are loaded with sugar.

I think £5 per week is a great price if it works for you and keeps you focussed. I had no problems paying £66 per week for LL because it worked and it kept my mind in a healthy place. If I had the cash spare I'd still be doing it. It's all about what you need to get you there.

WW or SW just weren't strict enough for me at the start of my weight loss. I needed the all or nothing approach. My head's in a totally different place now and I can follow a healthy eating plan without cheating. It's taken me a long time to get here.

It's all relative to what you can deal with alone and how much support you need at the time.

I realised today that I can now tuck my trousers into my socks and still have room at the top of my wellies!! :dance:

Woo hoo, but do they still fart? The wellies that is....

Sarah, that meal sounds lovelya nd I bet you really enjoyed it after not eating proper food for so long.

Try marinating overnight either chicken or fish in lime zest and juice, honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic and the tiniest dash of olive oil. Then cook in that sauce and eat it warm with a salad. DIVINE :D

Well Done Rhapsody :dance::dance::D:dance::dance:

I decided at the beginning of Feb that the time had come to do something and so I tried a 5 week course of 'weight to go' (orginally designed for those who had had gastric bands but now, available to everyone) It was good because all your food is taken care of - 3 shakes, a soup and a light meal. No need to think or plan ahead, which lessoned the chances of temptation. I have lost 22lbs in the 5 weeks :D :D :D and I now feel totally in the 'lose weight get fit' zone :wink:

I have decided now to swap over to WW online (partly due to cost and partly because they had changed some of the meals and soups and now the weekly food packs contained too many of the ones I really wasn't keen on)

I'm finding WW online really easy to follow and I like the points tracker. Going for filling foods like jacket pot with tuna, boiled eggs, fruit and veg and WW meals in the evening:D :D I'm finding somedays that it's hard to eat all my points :?:? How many points are other WW followers having each day :?::?: Please could you let me know :D so I can check that I haven't made a mistake :roll::roll:

Keep up the good work everyone :D :D - just think how even more glam we'll be in a few months :D :D :D

I am on the WW monthly pass, which is good value,I think.

Its £17 a month, & that includes as many meetings as you like, plus the e-source, so it works out at about £4.25 a week. Considering just the WW meeting is £5.50 on its own, monthly pass is a good deal :D

I really like e-source, & find it a doddle to use, but still need to go & weigh in once a week, or I slip off the rails :roll::lol:

If it helps I'm on 18 points a day (soon to be 17 :cry: )

That does help - I had assumed that over time as you lose weight your points allowance goes down and that initially it is based on current weight, height and goal weight :D :D :D

I'm using WW online and find the points tracker brilliant - I used the recipe caluclator the other day and worked out that 1 of my fairy cakes would be 3 points :D:(

That's right. For those not in the know, your daily points allowance is calculated thus-

Female= 3

Male= 6 (booo!)

Add weight in nearest stone (round down)

Age- 16-20=5

21-35=4

36-50=3

51-65=2

65+ = 1

Height under 5'4"= 1

Over 5'4"= 2 (boo!)

Add actvity level.....

Sedentary= 0

Sitting/standing=2

Walking=4

Physical work=6

Add these together and yoiu get your daily points allowance. All food eaten is converted into points (they give you the info and gizmos for this) and the idea is not to go over your total. I find it helpful to count down from my 19 to zero, rather than adding up.

I've given myself 2 points for activity level even though I do alot of manual work around the farm and I ride most days, I think this is what has accelerated my weight loss.

We were talking about breakfast at WW today and everyone was describing the most dreary starts to the day imaginable, here's mine which drew gasps of amazement that it were possible!

WW BLT- 3 points

3 slices Sainsbury's' 'B Goodto Yourself' Bacon Medallions

2 slices Nimble wholemeal bread, lightly toasted

1/2 tomato

Couple lettuce leaves

Dab mustard and brown or tomato sauce.

Obviously, grill the bacon and don't overtoast diet bread as turns it into a beermat.

I'm staying on the straight and narrow, can't say I've lost much more (maybe a couple of pounds). I'm finding carbs hard to deal with even though I'm having low GI food. Still staying away from bread. I find I'm still "hungry" soon after any carbs.

It's a steep learning curve. Now the weather's a bit brighter and the days are longer I'm doing more exercise so that'll help.

How's everyone else doing?

I only lost 1.5lb on my first week, but at least its a loss & a start.

If I am honest, I wasn't especially good, so an lucky to have lost that,really :roll:

I am feeling very good this week though, even though I have a meal in Strada to deal with on Sunday, but I figure if I have Pasta & don't eat much else all day I should be fine.

Sadly Strada isn't in the eating out section, so I am using Pizza Express, which is the nearest equivalent I can find.......

Thanks Clare :oops: It was fab to see you all too.

Had a funny experience on the way home. Popped into the local supermarket's petrol station to fill up, where the cashier asked me if I wanted to buy discounted croissants, bread, chocolate...etc. I politely said " no thanks" to each item. She then said, " You obviously don't know a bargain when you see one!"

I then explained to her that I'd just lost nearly 9 stone and was trying to not have these items in the house. She then said " Now I know that you're not having them anyway!" :lol:

Some people, really!

Don't you just hate it in WHSmiths when they offer you chocolate at the tills? Anyway, I've lost most of the weight gained on my hols - just another 2lb to go & I'm back to what I lost before I went away. :D

I don't buy choccy bars anymore & haven't craved them either. I enjoyed my Walkers french fries yesterday - the cheese & onion ones are droolworthy! They tasted just like Ringos. Can you still buy them?

Anyways - well done to the skinny Minnies & good luck to all who are trying.

Temptation eh? :twisted: its crisps with me :oops:

When I find myself longingly eyeing up the Walkers I mentally impose a picture of my skinny jeans in front of them, like vampires and garlic :lol:

*wheels out portable pedestal*

Can I also publicly say thank you to my wonderful family who have been patient with me at the beginning when I was hungry and cross, encouraging when I had bad weeks, congratulatory when I reached each milestone and now don't stop telling me how fantastic I look. No-one has moaned about the low-fat coooking or made remarks when I eat something different to them, and my sons are always asking me the points values of foods and have shown real interest in how you can take control of your body image.

:clap: to the lads- OH, R, and A. xxxxxxx

Chocolate doesn't do it for me either Rhapsody, I am a real savoury snacker :?

Luckily I adore olives, so can stave off the cravings with a handful of those (in brine, not oil :angel: ) when I have the savory munchies.

Your family sound really supportive, lucky you :P

I have just about given up dieting :oops: when my DH saw an advert for Diet Chef. I am completely rubbish at losing weight - lost half a stone and nothing since. Diet Chef provides a weeks worth of food for £47.50. 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 dinners and 7 snacks. I had a (minor) moment of madness and ordered a weeks worth of stuff :oops: It should be here on Mon/Tue. I just wondered if anyone had tried it and was it easy to do?

I'm not making excuses but my problem is portion control - I don't have any! :wall: I thought if I tried this for a while then at least it would give me an idea of portion sizes. I want to kickstart myself off again! :roll:
