Cooks
Slight change to plans as we only managed to get two hens rather than the intended 3, however there wasn't much I could do about that. But we have Pearl - A Coral and Cocoa - A Rode Rock (spelling??) at leat thats what he called it. 10 year old loved these more than the columbian black tail that I thought he might like today. She has a wonderfull black colouring which shines blue like petrol in the sun. They are beautifull, but wont lay for around 4 weeks he said. He did have amber stars that could have been the third bird choice however I had my heart on a bluebelle but having got them back, I like the two birds in the eglu, so may stick to the two. I will post pictures once they have settled and are used the their surroundings. we are very proud of our new birds in this house. Cooks
Thanks, I didn't know whether to list the Cocoa as a black on the profile or a brown, but she's more black in colour.. How did your collection go??

Cooks
thanks my son got picked by the rode rock, he was smitten after that, I coulnd't argue with that could I.. does anyone know what colour ish egg they lay?? the coral lays a creamy beige, is that right?? so as long as the rode is darker they will be able to tell them apart. We could have had hens that were already laying, children weren't having none of that, they want to wait for their first egg Edited April 26, 2008 by Guest

Cooks
thank you, they are taking time to reflect in the eglu at the moment It's a lovely colour contrast I have to admit. Slightly odd not having a brown chicken, but hey thats my kids for you...

Ain't Nobody Here
Congratulations . Your kids were quite right - there's nothing like getting that first ever egg Photos please .
Cooks
I promise there will be photos as soon as I can, to be honest I am wondering about the rhode rock.. looks like a pepperpot to me... but whatever she is, she's loved already, the coral came up and pecked my sons jean bottoms at the farm, so he swooned all over the place Am keeping my spaniel away from them for the time being to let them find their feet. They dont need her sticking her nose in on them

Cooks
ok here's a really quick photo from my mobile and I had to close the eglu to take it, because they are a little bit wary and wanted to hop inside I think my son is deciding whether top call the coral 'Sugar' now... so watch this space... hope you like them as much as we do, the photo doesn't do them justice but I will get more when they are settled. Cooks
They are very beautiful... congratulations, I'm sure you'll all be very happy with them... Sugar and Cocoa would go quite well together, wouldn't it ?? Yes they would, it'd mean me changing my profile though.. Am a little dissapointed if truth be known that I didn't manage to get a bluebelle aswell.. but hey this was meant to be. although I was going to call her Sapphire and that would have ruined the whole drink and beverage theme we have going.. Cooks
it's decided.... Coral is named 'Sugar' Rhode Rock is named 'Cocoa' Sugar is braver, but Cocoa is feisty.. we love them love them love them!
Suzie
They are lovely - very pretty chickens. I'm loving the eglu too. Hope you're enjoying your new chooks as much as I am.
Cooks
Thanks, I love the eglu, orange has been my favourite colour since a child, although I did think I wanted a green one until I saw this (to please hubby) The girls are doing well, and settling down, they've had a few raisins and helped themselves to some food and water which was good because I was worried they wouldn't know about these grub and glugs. It seems that is Sugar checks the coast is clear then Cocoa will follow, although Cocoa will nip your fingers if your not carefull funny girls!, it's nice that the girls in the house now outweigh my two boys and hubby.... Chicken Licken
I think your rhode/rock is a bovans nera - same as a Miss Pepperpot. She looks very similar to my Barry. Mine are now 171/2 weeks and both are laying already. Flubenvet is in the post to you. Enjoy those hens. I hope the sun shines tomorrow so you can get to know them a bit more. Cooks
Thanks, I said in an early post I had my suspicions she was a Miss Pepperpot, so she probably is if you think so too. I asked the breeder to confirm twice what she was and he said both times Rhode Rock he said a mix of black rock and Rhode island I believe... but I dont know.. I was still in a huff about not getting my bluebelle.. I am happy to have a Miss Pepperpot if that's what she is, because they are beautifull and lovely temprements. She's a lovely Petrol colour on her back with chestnut type feathering under her chin and on her chest. Thanks for the Flubenvet, that's really kind of you. x
