Hi there

Does anyone know if you can buy just the chickens from omlet or do you have to buy an egglu to get the chickens. I would love an egglu but cant afford it and my husband is really good at making things which would be a whole lot cheaper option. I have emailed Omlet but got no reply.

thanks

If you live in their delivery area the might oblige...but there will be a delivery charge.

Why not try a local breeder?

Equivalent hens are:

Pepperpots....Bovans Nera, Black Rock

Gingernut Rangers.....Meadowsweet Rangers, Calder Rangers, Isa Browns, Warrens.

Omlet probably won't deliver chickens if you're not buying an Eglu as they need to keep a good stock in for those who do wish to purchase both. You're probably better off buying locally as most breeders stock hybrids which are the same as the Gingernut and Pepperpot. If you need info on local breeders, why not ask Barbara as she should be able to help - barbara@omlet.co.uk

Email Barbara at Omlet. Also have a look at this post of where to buy chickens.

You don't mention your location, but if you wanted to say what area you are in, Omleteers in that area could give you specific advice.

I got my first chickens from Omlet (with an eglu) but also got an additional one from a Meadowsweet agent. They sell hybrids. There are about 18 agents up and down the country. Egluntine has mentioned the common names for the Omlet hybrids to give you an idea of where to start.

You might like to look at pure breed hens too.

You may wish to order a copy of Practical Poultry Magazine online and have it posted for £3.60. In the June 2008 issue which is out now, there are 6 whole pages of contacts in the Breeders Directory. And if you find one near you I'm sure someone on this forum may know of them and give further advice.
