hils78
Hi I'm new to the forum so I thought I'd introduce me & the girls at the same time. Its my 30th this friday coming & my OH treated me to 3 chickens. Not entirely chosen by me (as was the deal) but chosen by him, my daughter & I! So I've ended up with Belina - buff Pekin bantam 8 weeks, Ramona - white Pekin bantam 6 weeks & Slayer - white silkie 6weeks. If I had my own way I would have chosen differently but I don't mind really. It was very heart warming to see my OH (long hair, heavy metal image age 43) choosing a white silkie!!! My daughter chose the white Pekin bantam & me the buff. I'm in the lucky position that if any turn out to be cockerals (which I can't keep in inner city Nottingham) my uncle needs one because his 9 yr old cockeral is on his last legs unfortunately. The only one the person who we got them off of was unsure of is the Silkie. Anyway they're absolute sweeties & I can't wait for a few eggs. x

hils78
They're lovely little things. The neighbours have already caught me talking to them , but they're as daft as me & have told me they WILL be chicken sitting when I go away & they WILL be having 'finders keepers' on any eggs! ---so lucky to have such good neighbours. I haven't found an eglu yet but have modified a 5ft x2ft hutch with a heat lamp as they're still v young. TBH the hutch would be fine for when they're older but i neeeeeed an eglu! So how long do you think it will take before I get an egg?
Ain't Nobody Here
I think hens are called POL (point of lay) at about 16-18 weeks so you may get eggs once they reach that age. Each hen is different though, some take much longer than others to get going .

Mutrix Farmers
Welcome to the forum. My chickens were a belated 40th (bird flu caused us to pause until we could decide whether it was a threat) Happy Birthday for Friday
Abbey Road Girl
Yes, welcome to the forum for people daft about chickens. It will take forever to get eggs (realistically, a few months), but then it will be like fruit machines paying off (addictive). At last: a benign addiction!
