I meant to say earlier that if anyone is near a biggish Boots they are giving away little pots of nose cream that helps to trap the pollen.

Its called HayMax and i wont go anywhere without mine at the minute!

 

Im a terrible hayfever sufferer and some days i can go through a whole box of tissues and my nose will run constantly. Benydril Acravistine (sp?)is the only medication that works for me but currently being pregnant im not allowed to take it.

 

The HayMax stuff works if i rub it on before i get out of bed and re-apply throughout the day.

I suffer from hay fever as well, am torn between looking forward to the warm weather or dreading it, the yellow rape seed is really bad and it seems to be everywhere. I remember talk about moving exam times to avoid the hay fever season but it was many years ago and nothing has changed.

 

On the bright side my eglu is coming on Friday

My son had a one a day pill from the docs called Loratatine. This seems to work well.

I have just looked at the pot & seen that it was free if you bought another Hayfever product.

I just saw the word free & pocketed it

I'm using cetirizine this year, i usually change each year to make sure it works. I've actually been fine so far, i started taking the tablets in April and it seems to have helped.

me too, I take antihistamine all year round but this time of year need eye drops & a nasal spray - i hope your daughter feels better soon it makes you feel really miserable

We use New Era hayfever tablets and have great success with them. I was first told about them years ago by someone who suffered horrendously with hayfever. She'd tried all the meds from the doctors and tried it as a last resort and it worked.

There are injections available, but you have to request this via the doc's and they may try and put you off. There is something called Kenelog (I think it might be a steroid) and you might only need one injection a year, maybe 2, which has to be done in a hospital in case of any bad allergic reaction. My mother in law used to have injections but the same doctor refused to give me the same thing. I have been quite a guinea pig over the years trying all sorts of tablets which never worked. Mine starts in spring (this year February) and lasts all through summer, although it has lasted into October sometimes. Mine isn't as bad as it used to be, but the rape does make it worse at times. At the moment I use Flixonase nasal spray which is quite good, although there isn't as much liquid in the bottle as Beconaise, and works out more expensive (but because it works better for me than Bec, quality of life is more important). Otherwise I dip my head into a basin of luke warm water and sniff it up my nose (known here as going for a snort!). It does clear the nasal passages for a short while, but if I do it too often it makes my sinuses a bit sore! That is only done in desperation, though!

I was 11 when I started - the advice from the doc was to stay indoors with the windows shut! I also had tests which showed I was allergic to only grass pollen - amazing when the grass pollen season starts a couple of months AFTER I start!

I think there is a hayfever/allergy clinic in London - you can request a visit via the doc's - from what I remember, it is a very good clinic, but I'm afraid I can't remember what it's name was (the doc's should know).
