Jane 20
Henrietta has been on the nest practically all morning, we tried taking her off but she just fluffed all her feathers up and sat on the roosting bars. She won't budge even for free ranging or treats. Does anyone know what could be wrong with her?
Jane 20
She's now laid and egg but is very stroppy if you try to move her and fluffs up to about twice her normal size - we now think she's gone broody so will put her into the run and shut the eglu door and hope that helps! Tessa the Duchess
Definitely sounds as though she is broody You could try dunking her lower half in cold water a couple of times a day. Boot her off the nest and confine her to the run as soon as you can. You could also try confining her to a broody cage for a few days, seems to work for most people if you can bear to do it. There is a sticky in Poultry Health with lots of tips for a broody hen. Tessa.

Ain't Nobody Here
Just what Molly did the other week . We dunked her a few times a day, kicked her off the nestbox and shut the door. We must have caught her just in time, she was over it in a week and only missed 2 days laying.
Egluntyne
There is info about "curing" a broody **here**. I found the freezer block method worked for me last year. I changed it every 4 hours and it did the trick in 2-3 days.
Jane 20
Thanks everyone - we are going for the water dunking this afternoon - and must remember to put something in the nesting box tonight! Hope she gets over it soon as we ghave two new arrivals on Friday Poor Olivia has just laid the quickest egg ever I think - we let her into the box and the egg arrived two minutes later!
