went to a farmers' market at Eddisbury Fruit farm and bought; outdoor reared pork sausages, 2 rump steaks, dry cured bacon, 3 different types of Cheshire cheese, pear and vanilla jam, locally grown strawbs, rye bread and vanilla fudge. We wanted some wild boar but they'd sold out

 

Also got some local honey, sweet pickle, pickled shallots, and some sweet cider from the farm shop.

 

There was a young lad on the till in the farm shop and when we sat down for a coffee we realised he'd overcharged us about £5! Ian went back to get a refund and the manager gave us the cider for free to say sorry

 

On the way home we passed a farm selling Cheshire new potatoes. Got chatting to the farmer who bunged in a few extra potatoes for us!

 

It's a lovely drive out to Vale Royal and saw plenty of chickens on the way!

 

We're having the rump steak, some new pots and broad beans from our garden for tea (and perhaps a glass of cider ) and t'row we're having a ploughmans for lunch

 

 

 

Then, we headed for Warrington to a camping shop we knew of, we need some sleeping bags as we've booked our first camping trip! However, when got there it was closed down. There was a Hospice shop in its place so we thought we'd have a browse anyway and I bought all these for £9!!!!

 

Very productive day

That lot looks wonderfu-i hope you enjoy it and for £9 you cant go wrongl! That really is cheap for all you've got.I buy meat from a nearby farm shop where i know everything has lived a good life and not intensivly reared.

What a good haul Poet, and those pots are a real bargain. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't rain tomorrow as I am hoping to go to our local farmer's market. There is a stall there run by a women who makes the most delish Indian food, all veggie. We buy enough for three seperate meals and I'm really craving some

sorry, did I imply we'd got the food AND the jars for £9? It was just the jars and casserole dishes that were £9.

 

The meat was £13 in total, the strawbs £1.40, honey £4, pickles about £2 each, same for the jam, can't remember how much the cheese was, fudge was £3.58 for 2 packs and the cider was free

we always have a veggie curry if we treat ourselves, brings out the flavours better than a meat curry, IMO You'll have to post some piccies for us to drool over

Not really had such an exciting day as you....Had a riding lesson this morning which I have to say went very well and have just been doing boring old house work this afternoon.... Oh I did collect some rocket from my veg patch and OH is cooking tea tonight so I have glass of wine here and sat with feet up .

Just a lazy day, we cleaned the garden for the girls then I (OH) made egg custards pies (thanks girls) , while my beloved filed her nails for 3 hours!! , now she is searching for pink nail varnish to match her brand new Omlet T-Shirt worn for the first time today, looks like i'm cooking tea . Tommorow will be a little busier we are off to the farmers market at Houghton Near Preston to buy the best fresh produce for our Sunday tea, great selection here too,(try vennison sausages). We also have tried the cider from Eddisbury fruit Farm (exactly like the bottle in your photo) they have a stall at the monthly market here but the keg cider has only been availiable once so we will go to Cheshire one day just to get some. Well she (head hen hugger) has still not finished so looks like I will have to light the chimnea to warm our bench area, cook some kerbabs, taste some (lots of actually) wine while we watch the girls have fun in the garden, could life get better. ah-that sounds about right! I honestly thought you had a £9 bargain of the century! The quality you get at farmers markets etc is sooooo much better than supermarkets and in my opinion-is worth the slightly more expense.

I didn't think it was particularly expensive really, we did get 8 big fat sausages, 16 rashers of thick bacon (which won't shrink to nothing when cooked) and 2 whopping rump steaks. I don't think that's bad going for £13 and I know the taste and quality will be far superior, not to mention the fact the animals have been well looked after

Went to the farmer's market earlier. Very disappointed because the veggie Indian food stall wasn't there Bought sausages, breaded ham and pork chops from the Giggly Pork stall. New potatoes and organic spinach and a large slice of lemon and poppyseed cake All very yummy. Shame about the veggie food stall though, I hope she has gone on her hols and not given up her stall.
