*mummy_hen*
Need some help! Posted the other day about a brand of mash called Gablestock which is what our BHWT co-ordinators gave us to start off with - only problem is i'm having major trouble tracking it down from anywhere. Have one company near us who sell near enough everything trying to see if they can do a special order for us but they weren't too optimisitc, plus i don't want this major hassle everytime the girls run out of food. Am trying them on layers pellets....but to be honest they aren't keen and they need as much as they can at the moment to help build them back up. Rang Gablestock themselves and they don't deliver as far as my county Have about enough to last me till the end of the weekend!! So...my question is, has anyone heard of a commonly found make of mash, that isn't the grey powder type stuff, it's more little flakes and it has dried peas, what looks like corn and a few other bits mixed in with it? The Dogmother
Can the co-ordinators where you got your hens advise you on the stockist that they use?
Cinnamon
The Marriages mash is the least powdery one I have ever found, & my hens love it. It has little bits of grain & seeds in it. I am happy to mail you a handful so you can take a look - pm me if you would like me to do this
*mummy_hen*
I contacted them but they are based about 2 hours away from where we live and i couldn't really justify that travelling distance everytime i need food for my greedy girls!! Things are never simple!!
Guest
we use the 'smallholder' range of mash, it is powdery but it isn't grey, it's more of a golden colour and does have larger 'bits' in it. http://www.smallholderfeed.co.uk/ It's available quite widely. i'm sure your girls will get used to a different brand. buffie
I've got ex batts and they all have marriages, for all the reasons already mentioned. It's looks good compared to other mash we've bought I would have thought they'd be fine on any good quality mash, they adapt well. abwsco
I just bought pellets and ground it up in the blender. Mine are now swapped over to pellets only and it's so much easier and less messy.
Egluntyne
When I got my ex-batts, I gave them Farmgate mash, as it was the only one I could get hold of. They wolfed it down. It had the bits in as you describe. I changed them over to pellets at the earliest opportunity.
jomaxsmith
Mine have Marriages. I tried them on Marriages Organic and it was much finer milled and they made a right mess throwing it out to find the bits they fancied. The non-organic stuff is quite course and had peas in Jo
Christian
I have tried several brands of mash (well the hens have, not me personally ) and found Marriages to best the best! The Marriages mash is the least powdery one I have ever found, & my hens love it.It has little bits of grain & seeds in it. It really is 'grainier' than all the others. There is still a small amount of powder left in the grub at the end of the day, but nothing like the amount with other brands.

shaun
My four recharged batts love the marriages mash - about £8 for a 20kg sack from our local pet shop.
