Omletina Kyckling Posted May 30, 2008 Share Posted May 30, 2008 Hi all, If anybody is after blue egg layers, Karen at Merrydale nr Leicester has got some in TODAY. I went up this afternoon and was front of a queue with Daisymay (Sophy) off the forum just behind me (nice to meet you Sophy!) They are Merrydale Crested hybrids and she got just 30 in - I reckon 10 will have sold at least this afternoon so if you are after one you need to get there asap as she doesn't think they'll last the weekend. I got my two girls together with a Sussex noir and they are all settling down for the night in Kate's blue Eglu, which she kindly loaned to me for the weekend, until my Cube arrives Monday morning (thanks Kate!) I tried really hard to find another girl and the same time as these two, but we only wanted one that was clearly a different colour to ours which the breeder just didn't have at the time.. so alas we have two. They came in this afternoon and there were queues of people there and she expects them to go very quickly!! It was funny as the delivery was about three hours late and there were cars turning up all the time waiting for them!! They are beautiful girls, I'm very happy!! She really seemed to know her stuff and seemed to be 'in it' for the love of chickens rather than anything else. I can definitely recommend her. My girls are settling in and I will let you all know with excitement if I am in the lucky 80% who get a blue/green egg. daisymay Posted May 30, 2008 Share Posted May 30, 2008 Thanks so much superjules....was my desperation so obvious even across the web....I thought I was just being quite cool about it The problem now is I spotted a lovely poland (I think Karen at Merrydale called it) chicken with a really crazy hairdo......where will it end!!! Saying that though I definitely feel very satisfied for now...I still don't know how I'll use 5 eggs per day so can't possibly contemplate anymore (plus I've definitely run out of room so decision made!). Such an exciting day!!! By the way .......there are going to be skylines at Southmead poultry. When I eventually got some they were really young, very scraggy-looking and unattractive. They're beautiful now though, obviously!! In answer to your question - It doesn't end! We've got 5 hybrids, 3 purebreed bantams and 2 chicks - we're drowning in eggs (2000 a year, I calculated last night), and I'm drooling over welsummer bantam eggs and praying for my BPR to go broody!! OH (not a chook-fan by any stretch of the imagination!) is checking out birdbox-cams to set up a webpage with nightvision for our maternity ward eglu and the kids get excited when they see dandelion leaves they can pick for the girls. They're already in together only one peck from newbie (no name yet) to the smallest but i think it was more of a what on earth are you? She does have a broken/deformed toe on each foot though, I'm hoping that it won't affect her roosting. Karen had a couple of lavender Pekin bantams which I wanted when I first went there but she didn't have any - and these ones today weren't for sale else I think I would have had one of those instead on looks alone (am I shallow?!). So my current 4 PLUS 3 ex batts coming on June 29th. Erm big shed conversion now needed. Although my uncle has expressed an interest in the ex-batts. daisymay Posted May 31, 2008 Share Posted May 31, 2008 Hi The crested ones seem to be £21 (both the merrydale ones and the skylines at southmead poultry - they both look the same on the photos I was sent). I don't know how much the other breeds (legbars and others but can't remember the names)are as I haven't managed to find anyone who had any for sale! I've just been to lock them in and one of the new girls was roosting on top of my eglu - she had flown out of her netted area...cheeky girl!
