fourfinches
We collected three hens from the Essex BHWT resuce last Saturday. Dandelion is the healthiest looking of the three. Buttercup has a very floppy comb Clover has a bald tummy and a damaged foot a lack of frilly knickers After they'd been put in their boxes I took some photos of some of the other hens. Lots of them were fairly well feathered but there were some that looked almost oven ready. I wish I could have taken more hens home! For the first couple of days they spent most of their time standing still but a week on the girls are scratching, have their tails up and trying to sort out the pecking order. Morag edited as one photo posted twice

n2hec
Bless them. My DH can't even look at photos like this - it upsets him too much. But at least we're all trying to change things so this happens less and less. I'm sure all these girls will love their new homes and soon be looking much better. *mummy_hen*
Aww they all look lovely, i love the names. We collected ours last friday and we have 2 'which would certainly be classed as 'oven ready', but just 9 days on they are already getting some new feathers and all have put on weight and are loving having free range of all the garden! You will have so much fun with them!

fourfinches
Thanks for all the lovely comments about them, we're really enjoying seeing them become chickens rather than machines. Poet asked What's wrong with Clover's foot? One of her claws is missing and that toe is very short - it looks as though it may have been cut off at some time. The boys thought she should be called scabbers after Ron Weasley's rat in Harry Potter, but she deserved a much prettier name. cathybc - the grass was only green as we had just moved the eglu there to put the new girls in. Our large walk in run with the cube has no grass left in it at all! Morag
cathybc
hi Morag - bit gutted to hear that, I thought you had a secret way of keeping your grass nice. You could have sold it for £££££ !!!!
