jackiepoppies
Collected our 6 new girls this morning. EGGciting ain't the word! Got them home, opened up the lid to my lilac cube and put the box with my 4 'rouge' chooks onto the nesting bars. Thought I'd just let them take their time to get used to their new surroundings.....nah.....out they rushed, down the stairs and into the run...leaving behind a beautiful dark brown, sqashed, stood upon and mangled egg One of them obviously couldn't wait the 20 minute drive home! Next introduction,....bearing in mind this is only a max. of 5 minutes later....I get the box with my 2 'noir' chooks out of he car. Same procedure, put box on roosting bars and give them time to acclimatise. OK, so it's alright to go down the ladder backwards..she might be scared of heights, like me, or perhaps she just wants to make a note of the way back ? or perhaps she just wanted to reassure her smaller sister. Yep, that was it After a quick look round, Margaret,[oh, what a natural leader] jumped on an off the stairs a few times [just to show the others how to do it.]then disappeared into the nest box. After a while of gentle cooing and clucking [yes I was eavesdropping] Margaret re~announced her presence to the the rest of our new flock from the top of the stairs. Naturally I rushed to the eggport, opened it and anxiously peered inside. I couldn't see anything apart from a lovely clean nestbox full of very new, fresh wood shavings. I put my hand in and gradually felt around......Yes... I felt something ....gently lifting it out, there was our 2nd egg of the day Beautiful, brown and weighing in at 44 grams 2 eggs on our 1st day...oh, joy of joys....but wait!, my 2nd 'noir' took note and was next up the stairs. I have named her Agnes {not the English pronunciation, but the French ,which I think is really pretty, Anniess!] [got to be Maggies 2nd in commqnd!] and lo and behold she followed conservative dictates and did her duty by laying a 38gm egg I am so proud! I love being a grandma. Sorry, gotta go, chookwatchin'! Jackiex

Il me semble que vous avez eu un journee tres excitant et mervielleuse. Quelle chance! Et trois oeufs en plus, mais on manque les photos, s'il vous plait. No french keyboard and cant be bothered with the accents. So say it in your best Rene accent. A plus, bisous
