Egg collecting

Recommended Posts

Son came home from school yesterday and decided he would let the girls out into their run. Thought it would be a good idea to check for eggs as we had all left quite early that morning and not collected any. There were three!! Carrying them back to the house, he dropped one! Smash! "Oh no" thinks he "mustn't let the girls eat that" puts two eggs in school blazer pocket and bends down to pick up broken egg. You've guessed it - crushes eggs in pocket!!!!

Tried not to laugh too much, especially as OH was v cross!!

Wouldn't mind but this is the second time he's broken eggs while collecting them. He managed to salvage the eggs the first time (he crushed them in his hand when Katie jumped up at him) to make an omelette for his lunch (he was on a Baker Day)

Didn't fancy scrambled eggs mixed with the contents of his blazer pocket :vom:

As you say loopyloo I have some more eggs today so no harm done (and at least the blazer is clean now!!)

I did the same thing today, put four eggs into my fleece pocket and then totally forgot and bent down to unzip plastic greenhouse and heard the squash. Managed to salvage two giving them to OH who wasn't impressed standing there with gooey egg on his hands while I disposed of the broken ones. amazing the mess made by two eggs had to throw jeans and fleece into the wash when I got in!

It's easily done

(The marys are in a walk in run with their eglu at the allotment now - will have to update avater pic)

I dont know why,but when i retrieve the eggs-i have a desire to start juggling.

Only problem is my hand to eye co-ordination isnt fantastic and i cant juggle for toffee.

Juggling with two wouldn't really look that impressive anyway - there's always a pause where the third should be!

Glad the blazer cleaned up ok. Must have been a right mess!

I'm always concerned about my kids breaking eggs when they collect them, as they're only 6 and 4, although this week it was my turn when I dropped a utensil on the egg skelter, breaking 3 eggs. Doh!

Lesson seems to have been learnt - he always takes a little plastic bowl with him now. He even brought one out for me one morning when I took the girls' porridge out in case there were any eggs to collect. :)

Blazer cleaner than ever. Wouldn't recommend cracking a egg in the washing machine soap drawer though.

I spent weeks telling my family about being careful when collecting the eggs....I was explaining how much effort goes into each one by the girls... they have been brilliant although a little :roll: anyway...... I myself..... now listen carefully I myself collect 1 at a time and put it into the middle bit of my bra :oops::oops::oops: ....cos inevitably I always find something else to do between the hens and the house :?:? and the bit in the middle of my bra keeps the little egg safe...(puts earplugs in at the sound of the omleteers all laughin out loud at me)..... I have never broken one yet that way, I then gently lay then into a basket lined with hay and decorated with feathers from the girls... but :oops::oops::oops: sometimes I mis handle the odd one and drop one and it cracks....:oops::oops::oops: do I curse????? of course I say all the rude words I can think of.... including new ones :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
