Karen & co.
We have always had lots of ants in our garden, but this year they are under most pot I move and have killed off one plant, by what looks like farming aphids I was digging over the veg patch hoping the chooks would eat the ants, but they just looked at them and went and walked off!!! Does anyone have any suggestions for getting rid of them please? karen x
236 OCU
If you don't want to use Ant Powder which works brilliantly - try pouring boiling water down the nest hole.
clare*
I have loads too. Last year the girls did eat the odd few, this year no interest I have loads of small mounds of earth coming up in the lawn full of ants. Someone said they don't like plain old talcum powder, I am going to try with it as boiling water will do nothing for the last of the grass. spott
i know this is a late reply, but don't get rid of the ants... move your chickens' dustbath there. the ants will crawl under the feathers and remove bits of old skin and parasites you chooks may have picked up. your chickens may not know this yet but once you give them som encouragement to peck and bathe in the area with the ants you will hardly ever see your chickens anywhere else!! The Dogmother
Good idea Spott I have loads of ants, and luckily my chooks like them. Try using salt around doors etc to discourage them. I got rid of some with Diatom.
