WitchHazel
Just got back from the wonderful Alison at Hook Farm, with my 12 week old Cream Legbar, and my 13 week old Welsummer. They are lovely looking girls, and they are soooo small. Not chick sized, of course, but even smaller than I thought they'd be. They're currently shut up in the Eglu to recover from the journey, and I'll be letting them out into their Eglu Run in about half an hour or so. I'll take some pics and post them later on. Washburn, my ginger cat, appeared within seconds of us putting the girls in, and he's been sniffing all over the Eglu trying to work out how to get in to get his lunch. Haven't decided on names yet. I've got a couple in mind, but I'm not sure. They're paired names, and I've never paired my pets' names before (as you're potentially left with a pet with a silly sounding name if one of them dies!). It's going to feel like a loooong 9 weeks or so until they can go in with the Big Girls. Edited July 4, 2008 by Guest

Gamebird
How lovely. If the weather is anything like it is here in Sussex then you can spend it in the garden enjoying the sun and new arrivals. Looking forward to the pictures.

frenchlayer
Piccys would be good. We will have to wait until you open the eglu. WitchHazel
OK, not great piccies as I'm trying to take them through the Run bars: Firstly a pic so you can get an idea of the size relative to the Eglu: Now one of the two of them Not very flattering one here, the Welsummer (Right) is stretching - although she looks like a Game Bird here! And finally (for now) a profile of the Legbar. She has a really wacky hair do The Legbar (the youngest) was first out of the Eglu, first to find the water, first to find the food. They're busy devouring all the grass in the Run at the momemnt, so I can see we're going to have to move it before the 5 days is up! We've also had to put another shade over one side and half the top, as the sun is really fierce asn there is no natural shade where they are. I'll see how the sun moves today in case we have to relocate them earlier still! EDITED as one of the photos was the full size versio

Gamebird
What beautiful looking young ladies. I didn't watch Hector's house - probably after my time. But I do remember Zsa Zsa Gabor a very flambouyant, blond, Hungarian actress which might be quite appropriate for a pure bred chicken. WitchHazel
I have to ask...how did Washburn get to be called such a fascinating name? I wish it was a fascinating answer! I really loved - almost to th epoint of obsession - the TV show "Firefly" and the film version, "Serenity". As soon as I had decided to look for a ginger kitten, I knew he would be named after the one ginger haired characer on the show: Hoban "Wash" Washburn, played by Alan Tudyk. The cat really lives up to his name. He's always washing himself.
ubereglu
Aww, they're lovely. I always wanted a Welsummer as they're gorgeous! I got Molly at a similar age-well 9 weeks and she's now nearly a year old! However when I got my two youngsters they were still learning to cluck and cheeped quite a lot and when Molly had to be caught she'd quack!
