Ain't Nobody Here
I seem to remember a thread about this ages ago and someone mentioning a Northern Ireland insurance company that offered a good deal for teenagers with restrictions on the type of car. Can anyone remember what it was? A few of my friends have sons who are learning to drive and are bemoaning the cost of insurance.
Flo
I didn't see that thread but I am with a Northern Ireland insurer - Quinn. Does that sound familiar?
Ain't Nobody Here
Thanks Flo, but I can't remember the name at all . I'll check Quinn out though!
Nicola H
We have just insured my son's car with Quinn Direct and it was by far the cheapest........Hope you get a good quote, one company wanted £12,000 no I haven't added too many 0's, I couldn't believe it........ abwsco
It is indeed Quinn but we didn't go with them for my daughters insurance as I got told quite a few bad reports about them when I checked around. One was even from someone who works for them. Barge and pole were the words used! Also, they need to be aware that prices rocket when they've passed their test Can be triple for lads from my daughters friends experience. Churchill was a good price for my daughter but girls insurance is cheaper.

poachedegg
I have also read some 'dodgy' things about Quinn - mainly that once passed the premiums absolutely rocket and that their customer services are dire. I am looking for insurance at the moment for our 17 yr old who is learning and from the research I have done I would definitely not use Quinn. Phonix
Im a girl so prolly not much use but I was insured with Diamond at the start but they were really fussy and insisted that I was insured as first driver as they were convinced that the car was bought for me but was to be insured in mums name to make it cheaper (not the case - was for mum for work and me to learn in cos our outher car was a mammoth!!!)! Anyways it didn't really matter cos my mum had no 'no claims' anyways and now my insurance should be cheaper when i get my own car as I now have 3 years! wooo! As for insurance going up when you pass my dad rang them when I did and they just sent me a letter of congrats and the price stayed the same!! Janepie33
My son is learning to drive and he is insured with KwickFit. He has an old Mini, so just under 1000cc. My OH managed to get the price down to around £500. Other companies quoted between £1,000 and £2,500 and I heard of another quote of £6,000. It might be worth looking at them. Louise
I have used quoteline direct for years and I have never managed to beat their quotes by much and by the time you do you have to switch every year afterwards as the intro offers never stay good The most I have ever found to save is £50 per year usually by cash back which you have to claim and then next year the premium rockets so I have learned to just stay put with quoteline but I always check each year

Tina C
http://www.morethandrivetime.com/ Try this? Its a 'pay as you drive policy' and there are restrictions - must be home by 11pm (tee hee) - and its aimed at 18-25 year olds, so no good if only 17. Norwich Union used to do one of these as well but its discontinued.
Seagazer
Oh boy I wish I'd seen this thread a month ago. We've insure myself, 20 year old daughter and 17 year old son with Quinn. I certainly hope it doesn't go up when Tom passes his test. Good luck for the other Tom on his test

I certainly hope it doesn't go up when Tom passes his test. Good luck for the other Tom on his test I'm 99.99% sure it will do as he is no longer required by law to be supervised. Could be worth him doing his pass plus but don't know if Quinn recognise it. If it helps it wasn't something that entered my head when we were sorting out insurance for my daughter either so we've fingers crossed that hers doesn't rocket when she passes.
