Ain't Nobody Here
Oh, come out from behind the sofa and tell us all . You'll be drowning in PMs otherwise .
Snoxy
I'm amazed and heartened that my post has intrigued so many of my fellow chicken keepers Rather than PM those of you who are 'intrigued'...I will be brave and post here To cut a long story short...we are not happy with the two 'Bormio' style sofas we took delivery of recently...it looks like the leather is just too big for the frame...or there isn't enough padding in the sofas. We specifically chose the 'Bormio' because it had a very tight, smooth look but our sofas look nothing like the one in store We've been told the sofas are not faulty but it is our 'expectations' that are the problem Frankly the sofas look like they are years old already...I do understand leather stretches but our sofas arrived very stretched I absolutely love the vibrant red colour Many apologies in advance if you or anyone you know is a DFS employee...it is not my intention to offend anyone but just to try and find someone who has experience of this kind with DFS Hope you all have a positive day... Ain't Nobody Here
I can understand you being disappointed if they're not the same as the ones you saw in the shop . Could you take lots of photos (if it would show up the problem) and take them into the shop? If you saw the shop one again, it might be easier to tell if there really is a huge difference, in which case you might have grounds for a refund. Treekeeper
I hope you didn't buy any extra insurance to cover spillages etc? We did and it is not worth the paper it's written on. In the shop they tell you it covers everything and then the policy arrives with a big list of what it doesn't cover: curry, water, wine, glue you name it it's excluded
chickencam
We bought a red leather corner suite from DFS a year last April, it was reduced because it was a rejected customer order. We only bought it because it was cheap and we could see what we were getting. It was aparently too big to get into the original customers' flat. We bought both of our previous sofas from DFS and both were faulty in some way when they arrived. The first one was in the late 1980's and it was one of those floppy arm ones and the side panels were stapled on and all the staples came loose within 6 weeks of us having it and the zip on one of the cushions broke. We tried to complain but got nowhere. The next time we bought a sofa we didn't want to go back there but we buy very much on comfort and this was the most comfortable that we found, when it came the middle cushion was really over stuffed and never looked right, the covers were too small and the cuchions very quickly got flattened despite regular shaking. We went into DFS because we were waiting for our son at a football course when we bought our present sofa but as I said we saw what we were getting and it has stayed pretty smooth. Try to complain take loads of photos etc but I think that there are so many variations in leather sofas that they think that they can get away with murder Good luck
Snowy
It may also be worth taking some surreptitious photos of the one in the shop to compare the two You should stick to your guns and demand a refund, you should not be expected to pay through the nose for shoddy workmanship. I also had a suite from DFS - my second, the first one we bought 18 years ago and it lasted us a good ten years and the people we gave it too say it is still going strong. The second was a different story. Hadn't had it a year and the arms had caved in and lost their rounded shape, the cushions were so compacted and solid it was actually uncomfortable to sit on. Needless to say we didn't do back there for our next suite
Yorkshire Pudding
We also had one that was rubbish - saggy, baggy and a bit loose at the seams, to say the least. The frame was only chipboard and snapped after a couple of years. We won't go to DFS again.
Snoxy
Thank you very much for all the advice and comments...I was confident I wouldn't be the only one who has had a problem with DFS DH took some superb photos of our sofas soon after they arrived which show the defective workmanship very well. Unfortunately/conveniently the 'Bormio' is now discontinued...DFS ranges change very frequently don't they I can't believe I accepted it...but hate to think what would have happened if I had rejected it on arrival as the Store Manager we have dealt with so far is ***** We had given our old sofas away the night before and had waited 14 weeks for delivery I was just so relieved they had finally arrived. A N Other discreetly tried locating a 'Bormio' sofa but there isn't one available in any DFS showroom anywhere in the country apparently so no luck taking photos of a shop sample...photos would have been our best chance...this is one reason I am trying to find someone who has one which looks like the one we saw in store. I have downloaded a photo from the internet but the sofa is in a cream colour and just doesn't show conclusively how nice and tight the leather is. We have been to CAB and they were very helpful...and are now taking the matter further...I will not give up but fear we have a long fight ahead We spent hours trawling the shops with our 4 children...bless them for being so patient...we knew exactly what we wanted and had the ones we have received been in the stores we visited we would have walked right on by and not given them a second look as we did with lots of 'saggy' style sofas we saw. For someone who wasn't going to post much on this subject I've rambled on and on and on but I have to say I feel a whole heap better for sharing this...we are moving house in the next few weeks and the stress of that alone is mounting and my IBS is playing up rotten
Tessa the Duchess
I would have thought that Trading Standards would be interested in your case, although I see you have contacted CAB and they will probably contact them for you. The Sale of Goods Act lays down quite clearly the rights of the consumer and if a retailer is in breach of any of the Act you may have a case to take to the small claims court. It is really easy to set up a claim I believe you can now do it online. If you add to the cost of the sofa all the other expenses incurred through trying to get some sense out of DFS you may find DFS choose to settle out of court. Also why don't you e.mail Watchdog, if they get enough complaints about a company they may feature them in the programme, I am sure you are not the only one who is not happy with DFS. Good luck with the move. Tessa
Snoxy
The very helpful genleman at CAB told us exactly the same regarding court action...but he told us we have to first go through the Company's complaints procedure...we have written two letters to the store where we ordered the sofas asking them to tell us about their complaints procedure...after receiving two abysmal replies we have now sent a letter to Head Office (not that I hold out much hope they will be helpful either...have read some dreadful stories about unscrupulous DFS employees) along with copies of both letters sent to the local store previously and photos we have taken etc., etc. because the local store manager just completely chooses to miss the point and ignore our request. I have considered contacting Watchdog and the local newspaper as I feel strongly that DFS should not be allowed to get away with this...but at the moment I am sticking to what has been advised by CAB as it may jeopardise things. I am very surprised that Watchdog haven't already highlighted DFS...I did check their website...I would feel quite satisfied if they got some negative press on national TV
Egluntyne
If it isn't "fit for purpose" horrible expression, you should have some comeback. Sorry for your disappointment. Good luck.
BarbaraJ
we have had 2 lots of 2 sofas from Dfs the first lot was too big for our living room really obviously our fault but however much plumped looked floppy. the next one is leather , now 2 years old and very happy with it. The stiching on out poofee came slightly undone and they came quickly to resolve the problem. we bought the stain thingy andhe has come out twice. just to let you know he said 'tell them on phone that its something else rather than whats on the list and i will try and get rid of it for you lol nice bloke!! my dd works there lmao but only part time and they pay quite well, shes a docket filler
Cinnamon
Although I have no experience of DFS, I can say that John Lewis furniture dept is fab. We bought a leather suite from them & after a couple of years one sofa was looking a bit tired around the springs, & they swapped the whole lot,so that there would be no discrepency in colour match. I wouldn't shop anywhere else for furniture,or a lot of other stuff too. I do hope you get this sorted - it sounds like you have been treated appalingly. Snoxy
I did manage to pursuade a very experienced upholsterer (30 years) to come take a look at our sofas...he did say that if I had bought them from John Lewis they would more than likely have taken them away the very next day if we weren't happy with them The upholsterer wasn't keen to write a 'report' on the state of our sofas...and neither were two other companies i rang when I explained our dilema Ho-hum
