tiggerlady
Well I decided to bite the bullet tonight and clip my girls wings as we were thinking of letting them out tomorrow and I didnt want them eating next doors salad for their tea! We got in from work and the little tinkers had gone to bed.. probably thought it was getting dark(no,just pelting with rain earlier!) Took a deep breath and confidently( or tried to look it!) grasped bemused and disgruntled chook out of bed, plopped her on my lap and took off 3/4 of an inch of one wing, gsve her a cuddle and put her back, repeating with the other one, who was so impressed she christened my leg!!! Well it least its done now and OH was quite impressed how well the girls behaved.I think he was expecting a lot of screeching and sqwawking..to be honest so was I..Thought we' d call them Bella and Lily..it seems to suit them! Have I taken enough off the wing do you think? Am also thinking of buying a cast iron bell ringer from ebay with..surprise..a chicken on it!! Christian
Well done you for clipping their wings! It is a little nerve racking the first time isn't it? Here is a guide on how to do it and shows you how much to take off - **Wing Clipping**
tiggerlady
Thanks for that Christian. That looks about the amount that I took off.Its lucky tha chooks seem to be forgiving...Im going to try and give them a mite powdering tomorrow..just as preventative measure! Im sure that they'll definately protest loudly at that but its for their own good!
Old Speckled Hen
I always leave the last one or two feathers at the leading edge so they don't LOOK clipped.
