Ange1
I've now had 3 eggs and am begining to think 'I could get used to this' It has been obvious who has laid these three, Ethel our light Sussex is larger, with red combs and wattles, when sitting in the run in the auboise started to gather the stuff around her as if she was nesting and has even 'crouched' when boyfriend tried to pick her up from behind! So that's sorted definately found our laying girl! What/how have you been able to tell which ones are laying which after the first one? If it was Carmen our crested next that would be easy as hopefully 80% chance of a blue/green egg! Ethels have been pale cream with a 'hint of a tint' blush! What colours do pieds lay, I think it's down a 'brown' but so were the light sussex down as brown, which they weren't! Harriet the ranger I guess will lay 'supermarket light brown egg' will she? Finally there's our Amber Margot Laybetter what colour will hers be? Any experience or top tips to know who laid what would be good! Thanks
stoice
If you hold your chickens in your arms and gently feel their pelvic bone, the layers pelvic bones are wider apart - about three fingers worth. That should help you identify who is in lay, as for who's egg is whos I can only suggest some 'i spy' and watch who appears from the nest. I found this on you tube (I think someone on here sent a link) they're quite informative and there are a few done in this american program
