redhotchick
After receiving our electricity bill I am considering buying a monitor. Have looked at OWL and Efergy they are both similar prices but Efergy can link to PC to give detailed charts etc. How are you all getting on with your meters and have they saved you money and cut bills? Were there any electrical items that have surprised you? We got a woodburner last year and have dramatically cut our gas bill so this is the next step. I've not heard of Efergy. Linking up to the computer sounds really useful. The OWL monitor only tells you usage at a point in time. Using my OWL monitor I identified a light bulb that I thought was a low energy one, wasn't, so I was able to change it. I was surprised by how much electricity the gas central heating uses. In fact that still doesn't sound right! It's the pump I think? I need to put new batteries in my OWL monitor. I haven't used it for a while. This post has reminded me to check my readings and update online. Something I have started trying to do around the 5th of each month to help me keep track. carrie
Well I bought one today, a PROLECTRIX, reduced from £60 to £20 in a catalogue surplus store. Got it home and fixed it all up, it works, and it has a memory so can give weekly and monthly figures. I have had a great time switching things on and off (annoying the kids and OH), so far my worst culprits are tumble dryer (no surpises there) 34p/hr kettle 36p/hr. my nice surprises were my bedroom ceiling fan which barely uses anything and which I can't live without in summer and the pool filter pump, so the kids are happy with that! and my laptop which isn't using much so I'll be able to stay on OMLET as long as I like. Off to do more testing (becoming addictive like some of you said)
Tiggy
OH is now obcessed with switching things off, if only it would rub off on his teenaged kids
carrie
I know what you mean, one of my children is really up for it however the other 2 and OH are less than enthusiastic. WE seem to be using about 7 kwh a day and I don't know whether that is good or bad but an't see how I could reduce it much further.

We only just manage that and there is only two of us!
