Yolky
Yesterday we made a circle of the omlet netting and popped the chooks in there while we did their run and cleaned their house out. The circle of netting is near their eglu but not around it (at the moment we don't have the space around it and also where it is makes it impossible. Anyway I just went out a while ago to pop them in there again for an hour before nursery run. 2 of my chickens are easy to pick up and don't mind but one of them seems to get really cross about it and is making cross noises at me. I couldn't even tempt her over with dandelion leaves (unknown!) I sat there for a good while trying to coax her to the door of the run but no go. So at the moment I have 2 in the netting and I have left her in the run. Have I done the right thing? I don't want to stress her out any more than I have to but I am aware she is missing the chance to strech her wings and eat some grass and I feel sad about that. Egluntyne
It won't harm her. Maybe she will get the hang of it another time.
Yolky
Thanks Egluntine. I feel sad she won't get to scratch in the grass today as they have the hemcore in their run now (although they seem to enjoy scratching about in that) Just as a side note I bought them a bag of mixed corn today as I thought it would be good for them to have something to find when they scratch about the hemcore. I know I shouldn't feed till late afternoon but I was wondering how much I should pop in for three chickens. Thank you
chickencam
A small handful will be sufficient for 3 chickens. We put ours back into the run with corn after their afternoon ramble it never fails to get them to go home, I just throw in the corn from the scoop in through the gate and in they run
