flo35
Over the past two days one of my brood has not been well, sitting quietly, hardly eating or drinking. This afternoon I had a good look at her and noticed she could not put weight on her leg and was missing feathers on her underside, and her skin was yellow. She has laid a good egg this morning, but the past couple of days the eggs have been wrinkly. She looks like a very poorly bird. Any ideas?? theherd123
Poor little girl - she doesnt sound good does she With regards to the feather loss - is she being picked on at all? Do you know if she has she fallen or landed heavily on her leg? Arnica pillules from Boots may help esp. if she has any internal bruising. Not really too sure about the yellow skin. If she doesnt look good tomorrow morning i would take her to the vet as not eating or drinking isnt a good sign. Christian
I agree with Em, a trip to the vet sounds like a good plan. Try and get her to drink something. Water mixed with a little honey or cucumber pieces to try and get fluid into her. They can dehydrate very quickly, especially in this warm weather. Hope she is better soon. Egluntyne
Wrinkly eggs and reluctance to weight bear sounds like a shortage of calcium. Limestone flour is a good boost. You can get it in equestrian shops or on Ebay as sold for reptiles. I also give mine codliver oil to increase the vitamin D which helps too. The reluctance to drink is a worry though. Can you syringe some water sweetened with a drop of honey into her? It might give her a bit of energy. I agree about taking her to the vet if she is no better tomorrow morning. stoice
Egluntine, do you get cod liver oil in a bottle in a pharmacy for humans or is there an animal grade version available? I must admit I've only ever noticed the capsule versions. How much do you give and how often?
Egluntyne
I have a big bottle from the equestrian shop now, but I have in the past pierced open unused capsules. You only need a couple on a grub full of feed. It disappears when you mix it in. Ruined my fave blouse though as I got oil all over it and the smell of fish wouldn't wash out. stoice
Thanks I'll give it a go. (Not the fishy blouse thing - the buying from an equestrian shop!)
