Noisy chickens

Recommended Posts

My chickens were making a real racket last night around 8.30ish. I went running down the garden to see what the fuss was about, nothing untowards. One of the PP was squawking very loudly on the ladder of the cube!

I have noticed that they get very excited and make a lot of noise when I go down to see them, is that usual?

Do they start to make more noise as they come into lay?

Two are crouching now!

This can be interpreted as either "I'm going to lay an egg", "I've laid an egg" or "Get out of my nestbox there's a queue forming".

Yes. Although I've had mine a while now and when they see me they all pile ontop of each other to be the nearest to the door to be let out and don't make any noise now.

you can train them a bit by not always going down there just to give them treats or let them out. Just go down to potter round the garden and either ignore them completely or have a pleasant chat with them (can't believe I just said that! :? ).

That way they won't always connect you with lovely stuff. Worked for me anyway, they have definitely shut up a bit since I started going this

Yes, we had a queue this morning, one of the PP 's was desperate to lay her egg, it was the first day for both of them, they were so impatient waiting for the GNR to vacate the 'nest' they had fashioned from the shredded bank statements.

The eggs are so perfect and smooth and so warm when you pick them up.

I told them I was very pleased with them!

I always say 'Thanks' when I collect the eggs.

I quite often thank the cashpoint when it gives me money!

I found myself thanking the coffee vending machine at the training course I was on last week. There was a queue of people waiting for drinks so loads of witnesses to my eccentricity!

Our "whinge" when they see us out in the garden, but we just let them get on with it if it's not free range time. I call it whinging cause it sounds like just that! The only one that has been really noisy and we are not sure why, is naughty Pecky she's done it on the odd morning about 3 times. It does make me panic at what an earth is going on!!

I once thanked the car park machine

it replied "you are welcome":lol::lol:

I think I must have been speaking at exactly the same time as it was being "monitored"

I nearly fell over :lol::lol:

I also thank the girls for the eggs

we have one girl who lays in the run  and I ask her to lay in the nesting box, she usually looks at the egg with an interested look, then at me with a "oooh, whats that? did you do that? I can do them too!"
