HENthusiastic
HIya. I wonder if anybody has any clever ideas about what is going on with my May? She's an ex-batt. She was the fattest of the lot when she arrived, but she seems to be getting fatter! Also, she lays softie after softie, despite being given special meals on her own (in the kitchen ) with about a teaspoon of limestone flour a day in it! She seems healthy and happy. Hopefully shes just a food loving lady whose egg laying equipment is a bit knackered. She has access to oystershell grit too. I dont mind if she doesn't lay usable eggs, only trouble is, my Henrietta is broody and keeps sitting on......... and squashing the softies and then gets it stuck all over her. I have to keep picking eggshell off her feathers! As if she wasn't grumpy enough already!
dancing cloud
My ex-batt Joy has just started laying proper eggs again after a month or so of softies and then nothing. I wormed them all with Flubenvet and that may have helped, or she may have just been taking a break after all her time in a cage, but for the last few days she has been producing normally Perhaps you could worm yours, if you have not already done so? It might be that May's apparent weight gain isn't as healthy as you might have hoped Pity Henrietta hasn't learned that they're not good to sit on
Egluntyne
Why not try her with either Zolcal D or Davinova C. Both are useful in this situation.
HENthusiastic
Hi thanks for your answers. Dancing cloud; its reassuring to read that your ex-batt had a period of funny egg laying. My girls have been wormed. Do they get fat if they get worms? I've not heard that before. Or have I misunderstood you? Eglutine; I havent heard of either of those, what do they do? Are they just like a heavy grade source of calcium? I will order some and see how we go. Thanks again.
dancing cloud
A tummy-full of worms would make them look fat and they would appear to be eating well - just not getting the benefit themselves. Joy laid another egg today, so has produced every day for the last week. There were times during her softie period when she looked at death's door, so I am really glad to have her back to her usual cheeky self. Not that I have favourites, but she's the favourite I don't have (if you know what I mean)! Keep us posted about May and all the best. HENthusiastic
2 normal eggs in a row! horay. perhaps I was just too impatient for the limestone flour to work.
dancing cloud
Great news Sometimes I think they worry us on purpose, just to check how much we love them
Chickaboo
I had exactly the same problem - Phoebe laying softies in the nest that Daphne was brooding on. She was absolutley caked in yolk She had to have several baths to clean he rup! It was a nightmare.
