cluckbok
Hi ya, Our chooks have been in their run all day scratching around and now we have let them out to free range. But they have got muddy toes! we have tried bathing their feet in water and trying to get the mud off with some kitchen paper but we don't want to hurt them. It's hard dried in mud on the end of their toes, like small balls! Anyone got any good tips for getting rid of it quick! especially as the chooks get fidgety. We won't be able to help Pecky very easily as she's not very tame and just runs off!
Scramble
One of the books that I've bought on chicken keeping says that you should use warm soapy water and a toothbrush to gently scrub the dirt off, then to rinse their feet in cool water (no soap) and dry them with a towel. Hope this helps.
cluckbok
Ok thanks for that. I will see if it comes off as they are free ranging the garden at the mo. I bet they will hate the toothbrush but would be worth a try.
Ain't Nobody Here
Good luck with the toothbrush - I wonder if chickens have tickly feet .
BarbaraJ
i tried water , you need to soak them in warm to get it off.
Sandychick
wow! A pedicure for chickens! Mine are up to their tails in mud today......is it normal to wash their feet then? I kind of thought they would sort it out for themselves?
Guest
You could take Pecky out of the eglu after they have gone to bed and try. My gingernut ranger is still very shy, but I have been getting her out for a cuddle through the egg port each night and she is beginning to relax around me. I know you have had Pecky for longer than I have had Scarlett (thanks again for the hen party, the directions, and the chookcam!) and that she is appropriately named but it might be worth a try!
