Cubes finally coming to america!!!!!!!!!!!

Recommended Posts

We are emigrating, in literally a couple of weeks, to the US. I emailed James at Omlet a while back because I saw they now sell eglus over there but weren't yet offering the cube. He said it would be better to take one with us. So I ordered my cube, all excitedly, last night, presuming it'd arrive in time to be shipped by container ship with all our furniture at the end of this month only to be told they wouldn't be able to deliver until October 2nd.:shock::shock: I am so gutted!:cry::cry:

Anyone got any ideas?

I can't buy a used one on ebay or anything because you can't take used poultry things through US customs (obviously). I really don;t want a nasty wooden hen house over there :cry::cry: I wanted a nice insulated cube to keep my new hens cosy in the snowy winters...

I don't think there's any way around this but just had to express my disappointment! I couldn't have ordered it earlier as we only found out in the last few days that we were going this month (my husband is US military).

(Stamping feet) :cry::oops:

I did explain, but she didn't offer any alternative.

I have emailed them to see if they have a cancellation list at all. Not sure picking it up would help - seems to be more a supply issue than a delivery one, though I could if it would fit in the back of my mini! (only need the cube - no run).

Will see what they say!

Oh, that's a truly lovely offer, but I couldn't possibly. Am sure your hens are looking forward to it far too much - and you too!

Thanks ever so much for the kind thought though - really quite touched.

(Lucky you for getting purple though - I really fancied purple but OH was pushing green. Perhaps if I ever get one I'll tell him green was out of stock  )

Still waiting to hear back from Omlet.

You could get a quote for having to shipped to the USA? I would suggest DHL?

Where will you be based? You may find that there is a british military family on exchange where you are based (there are 700 exchange postings in the USA). You will need to befriend them and then get it sent to them through BFPO (The AFPO equivalent).

We were based at Pax River, MD for a while with the Royal Navy and we had many many things sent through the BFPO.

Upstate New York.

Lovely house with 17 acres for the price of a one bedroom flat around here...:shock::shock:

Think thats enough room for a few chickens??

Upstate NY "BEAUTIFUL" country and 17 acres. Yeah I would say you have plenty of room. I'm heading to Southern Vermont and Upstate NY Sunday for work. Good luck getting your cube. I think you should take Ajuff up on thier very kind offer (which brought a tear to my eye) and go with the purple cube. Won't your hubby be suprised?

BTW check out www.backyardchickens.com (a local chicken forum) you will find useful information regarding supplies and such.

I don't know that they'd 'know' but they might refuse it entry just in case.

With a new one I could show the receipt to show it was just bought...

AJuff's offer is extremely generous, and I was tempted, and touched, but then when I checked the date I realised our furniture will be shipped before then so its too late then anyway.

I think I will email James at Omlet and ask when they intend to sell them over there. We will probably delay getting chickens there until next spring anyway.

I thought about the posting thing but think it might be (a) too big for the postal limits, even if couriered, and (b) it doesn;t come in a box (does it) so can't even imagine how I'd package it - and doubt they'd send it with packaging - they're very fussy about that in my experience!

Shame though.

I wonder if the eglu's they sell over there are made there or if omlet ships them over (and could slip a cube in for me! - I could be a cube showroom for them!).

Ugh. Sigh.

I've been emailing quite frequently about the cube availability in the US and haven't yet recieved a reply. I want to be one of the first to recieve one in the US. I have even thought of taking a holiday in the UK and either checking it on the plane on the way back or shipping in via DHL.

Yes, I had thought about that but concluded that since I don't actually need the runs I'd be paying for unwanted runs and would still only get 6 chickens in the 2 eglus rather than 10 in a cube. :?

Thanks for the thought though...

You dont have to buy the runs, Omlet sell the eglu seperately can't remember if the are £240 or £260 without the run.

I was just going to say what you said MadMitch. Also 2 run less eglus are smaller to pack than a cube with its 5 boxes.
