chooklady
Spencer has been very good with the chooks; What he does do is herd them back into their run, We had never seen those sort of instincts in him before. I have a spray bottle in the garden and if he does get a bit carried away I just give him a quick squirt, he hates it so he leaves the chooks alone. He had it in for the Gingernut Ranger as she tugged his beard and he wasn't impressed and he growled at her because she went near his bone, which is something he never does usually, I think she just pushed her luck. Gamebird
What a lovely dog. The Schnauzer herding instincts must have been triggered by the chickens. Luckily my Labrador's retrieving instincts don't seem to apply to my chickens. He completely ignores them even when they try and peck his bone BTW, I love your set up. A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Your chickens are very purdy! Your brown one has lovely feathers for a brown one. I'm so excited. Mine are coming this week. Anna x
Nina14
Hi ive got an 18 month old giant schaunzer called Daisy and we have had the chickens 7 weeks and she killed one on the 5th day that we had them I am having terrible trouble with Daisy and the chickens because she still wants to kill them!!! We have recently had her spade and she seems to have calmed down with the chickens because the other week i found her in their run and she just stood there looking at them for ten seconds before i got to her. What did you do to introduce spencer to the chickens? P.S. Did you use to post on the great britain giant schaunzer forum because i remember the name spencer. Yes I did used to post on the SCGB forum, then I went to the Northern Schnauzer Club and their forum, but it closed. I new one has started which is not affiliated to any club, have a look, http://www.schnauzer-forum.co.uk/. Spencer has always been really good with all other animals, I guess part of that is luck, he is also fairly placid and he's nearly 4 which probably helps. Until he was between 1 1/2 and 2 he was very hard work. I have found that a water spray bottle works wonders and I only have to show it to Spence and he changes his mind about doing whatever it was he was going to do. PM me if you want to talk about the dogs, Nicola
