Janey4
I want to get my Ex bats all wormed and their claws clipped as they are *very* long. Wormers -Is flubendazole the one I should use and if so where can I get it? Also know about Verm-X, are these both to treat the same types of worms? And claw clipping, the girls claws are very long, is there anywhere with a guide to clipping them? Thanks
Egluntyne
You can get Flubenvet online. If you google it you will find numerous sites that sell it. Check the prices and p&p....they vary widely. Vermex isn't much cop in my experience. It is more of a preventative. It certainly didn't shift an infestation in my girls case. Claw clipping can be tricky because if you nick the blood vessel that runs so far down them, there will be an awful lot of blood! Probably best to ask the vet to do it. If they are pottering about on rough ground, the claws should wear down naturally, and may not need it.
Janey4
Thanks Claw clipping can be tricky because if you nick the blood vessel that runs so far down them, there will be an awful lot of blood! Probably best to ask the vet to do it. If they are pottering about on rough ground, the claws should wear down naturally, and may not need it. They arent on rough ground at the minute really and some of their claws are almost 3cm long I would say. A trip to the vets might be in order, but arent they very similar to rabbits/guinea pigs claws -as long as you only take off a little bit and not into the 'quick' is it??! The Dogmother
I've clipped ex-batts nails myself at rescues and they can get very long. It's sometimes hard to see the quick though, which extends quite far down the nail. If you're used to clipping bunny claws then it's a similar thing. If you're going to attempt it, do tiny bits at a time and have a bar of soft soap to hand to plug up any bleeds. As Egluntine says, it does make a dreadful mess if you nick the quick, so if you're at all concerned then get the vet to do it for you. Steve.
I've found staying away from the pointy bits the best policy. I still have a scar from where Wilma scratched me despite it being from the start of July. She's destined for the Oven unless she gets laying soon as I'm not happy with her unnecessary bullying of the other chooks.
