KarenR
Thanks everyone. It took about 8 weeks from start to finish, but that was mostly waiting for free dry days. lol Major building credit must go to my OH. I did a lot of painting and holding things. Looking forward to getting to know my girls and trying to think up some names. Quick question, do you mix grit into the pellets or put in seperately. Thanks Karen
Egluntyne
A super set up and lovely hens. Have they got names?
beach chick
it looks really lovely! I always think runs look so CLEAN.... unlike my tatty area with electric fence, and everythign the wind blows in!
KarenR
No names yet. Waiting for inspiration to strike. All the best names seem to be already taken by you guys. As for the run being clean, I am sure it won't stay that way if the girls have their way lol. Karen
BeckyBoo
Hi I keep grit seperate, some people put it in a pot for their hens to eat, I scatter it across the floor so they find it when they're scratching, I do it with the corn too. Run looks fab, OH's are good for something aren't they?! Mrs B
KarenR
Thanks Mrs B. I shall be a-scattering grit tonight. My OH really enjoyed making it (although don't tell anyone), that was once he got going though. We did have a pile of wood and wire for a couple of months in the garden lol. Just hope its fox proof. josephine77
Hi Karen, Gorgeous run and lovely chooks - sure they will be very happy in their new home. Do you mind me asking how old they are? It's just that I have a new chook whose age I'm not sure of and she looks identical in size to the ginger one in your last photo. chooklady
The house and the chooks look fantastic, well done.
RubyReckless
The run looks great, and what lovely girls! I think you are right about the run not staying pristine - as i tell the Yr1 class when i take a hen in, Chickens are not experts in flying but they are experts in pooing! how such a small animal generates such copious quantities of waste and still has time to lay an egg is beyond me! KarenR
Dear Josephine Sorry for the delay in replying. We picked up the hens on tuesday, Ben said they are between 16-20 weeks old. id say the orange hen is towards the 16 week end as she is the smallest and least developed. Our Medlesham Blue is the biggest and I think is responsible for our first egg. it was about half the size of a normal one but perfect.
