hilda-and-evadne
Permanently, not just at night, because she bullies Evadne so badly. After I caught her pulling out and eating a perfectly good feather from Evadne's bum, Hilda has spent most of this afternoon in the "sin bin" - a puppy crate - which I assembled within sight of the run deliberately so that she can see Evadne having the place to herself. For the first time ever, I have given them their afternoon treat in two separate dishes. I do have Ukadex but because of the smell it would not be fair to the neighbours to use it at a weekend when they want to be out in their gardens too. I won't send Hilda anywhere to be dispatched in a car park, even though she lays small eggs (the dog has those) as well as being a horrible hen. Not yet, anyway. To B&Q tomorrow, then, for some more weldmesh. I am a bit fed up.
Scramble
Oh, poor you! Hope things turn out okay. As well as using ukadex, have you tried pecka-blocks? I hear these are very good for this kind of thing.

I hear these are very good for this kind of thing. Thank you. Yes, I bought a peckablock but the hens found it too much like hard work and lost interest. In the end, I took it out of their run and hung it in a hawthorn tree in the garden: the squirrels then ate it all. I will send for some bumper bits, too, but reading other people's experiences with these it seems to be a bit hit and miss.
Egluntyne
How about a bumpabit?
Ain't Nobody Here
Sorry to hear Hilda's being such a nuisance . Hope she snaps out of it soon .
hilda-and-evadne
How about a bumpabit? Yes, I'm now going to send to Wernlas for some of these (have had the stamps ready for about six weeks!) Prolly going to have to put bumpabits on both of them; Evadne needs only a little encouragement to assert herself, and from what I have seen I think that as soon as she realised that Hilda couldn't "get her own back" she would become the problem pecking hen. I'll buy one of the circlip (? spelling) gadgety things, too. I would have to fit the bits by myself and I feel stressed just thinking about how complicated it sounds. Tigerlily
Hello Rachel, I now have a bumper bit on Mabel (my nasty pecky chook ) It has worked It is a 2 person job to fit it - I caught Mabel, got Mr TL to hold her (he had no experience at all) and I fitted it. It took around 5 mins to get it right but we did it She has been great since - has adapted really well to it, and once she realised the pecking had no effect she just stopped doing it! I have a spare one - pm me and I can post it to you if you want it? Take care and good luck - there is nothing worse and it makes you miserable to see a chook being bullied...
