Chickaboo
Daphne has two ticks on her wattle (think thats the correct term - the red flapping chin thing ) Goodness knows how, as she has been broody and on her nest for a month. OH decided the best thing was to put a hot match to them - which resulted in burning her causing a blister! - please don't report me to the RSPCA I have smeared her wound in sudocrem! and she seems fine, the tics look all shrivvled up and dead but have yet to drop off - should I tweezer them out? Egluntyne
Goodness! Whatever made him think that would be a good idea. Poor thing. Don't let him near her again! I think I'd leave well alone, they will drop of eventually. If her burn gets infected, a trip to the vets will be in order.
Helen&Lee
My cousin used to use a lit cigarette end to get the tics off her dogs - so I imagine that's where the thinking came from. Its far better to cover them in vaseline, they won't be able to breathe and will die.
quickcluck
If my dog gets them I just keep them covered in vaseline.... the sufocates them and then they will drop off.... the vets also advise this... hope it helps...
Blackrocksrock
Or buy a wonderful device called a tick remover from the vets - cheap and cheerful and does the job well
