Helen&Lee
Oh-oh, we've done this (several times ) and its real nightmare to get it started again. We have a Worcester Bosch boiler and we have to take the front cover off - down at the bottom right corner is a button to push in - effectively you have to bleed the air in the oil pipe out. (Even though ours is supposed to self-bleed ) Its difficult to describe I'm afraid - the access to this point on our boiler involves lying on your side between the boiler and the inside wall of our cupboard under the stairs - with not alot of room to spare.... I know we went onto the worcs bosch website to download the info needed - and it took 30- 40mins of perserverance. Sorry I'm not more help - I hope you manage to get it started soon. jackiepoppies
Hi, Find the 'bleed' screw, undo until oil appears [rather like bleeding a radiator] do it up again and press restart! In theory this will get you going straight away Good luck' Jackiex ps let us know how you get on!

Gamebird
We've run out of oil on 2 occasions and I'm afraid we call 'Bob' our 'Boiler Man' to get ours started again. You'd think after the first time we would have been more vigilant but, no, we managed to do it again, much to our embarrassment Sorry not to be able to offer you any concrete advice and hope you get it started soon. deejmum
Sorry to hear about your problem. I cant help I am afraid but try and look on the bright side, at least it's not February You should be able to stop this from happening again though.(not much help to you now I know). We have something in our tank called a signalman, which phones our oil supplier when we get to a certain level. They then ring us and tell us were nearly empty and arrange a top up. If we didnt have one I know we would run out regularly. How scary is the price of oil now though!
Lesley
This happened to us twice - when my leg was in plaster and I couldn't get to the boiler to check Both times we had to call out the boiler man to re-commission the boiler I'm quite happy to poke about in the boiler, having worked with my ex. as a plumber, but it does usually require a bit more than general plumbing/DIY skills. That's interesting about the signal man ....I'm a bit cross really as I'm sure our fuel gauge is faulty as it is registering just under a 1/4 full but the tank is definitely empty! After further attempts this morning and even referring to the instruction book [which incidentally insides of our boiler seem to bear no resemblance to ] I have given up and called and engineer out!! More expense not to mention the cost of the oil.! Anyhow they are sending someone this morning so hopefully it will be running again soon. Thanks all your tips and help...can't wait to have a long soak in the bath.
jackiepoppies
Watch how he does it.......just in case We used to find that by tilting the tank and ramming a block of wood under it, we made sure we were not wasting any oil by leaving it sat in the bottom! Hope you're all systems go now. Jackiex
chickenlass
It's up and running again now thanks everyone!! Still not too sure how he did it though ...seemed to take quite a while. Ah Well that'll teach me to keep a better check onthe level from now on.
Old Speckled Hen
Glad you're warm again. I have a watchman which cost about £50 The signalman has a monthly or annual fee charged by your oil supplier http://www.caldo.co.uk/tank_monitoring.htm#watchman It flashes to warn you of a low oil level
