lougarbard
Hello! About six weeks ago I bought a trio of Welsummers, they are great, and I am seriously addicted! I have today aquired a hen (?) off a firend who hatched three chicks from some random eggs she got from someone she knew. But we have no idea what breed this chick ( 10 weeks old) is? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Also she is thinking it is female, is there an easy way of telling? I can only get pictures for you, by you clicking on the link. Thanks for any help. chooklady
Have a look at this chicken, could be yours. The first one a Daisybelle. Your's is beatiful. http://www.cotswoldchickens.com/breeds.htm
Ain't Nobody Here
Welcome to the forum . I think Chooklady is probably right, but I immediately thought Pied Suffolk. Maybe not enough white round the neck for that though .
redfrock
I might be wrong ANH but I think a pied suffolk and a daiseybelle are the same breed, just different producers names . Mine are apparently daiseybelles but look like the pied suffolk picture and Tuesday has absolutely minimal white on her.
Egluntyne
She looks like my Pied Suffolk. Breeders give all sorts of fancy "brand" names to what is essentially the same breed.
Snowy
I'd say a pied suffolk as well. Or possibly a pure bred silver sussex!
MedusA
I would plump for pied suffolk too, but what do I know? She's lovely looking anyway. Edited for stupid typo
Scramble
Don't know but I just wanted to say that is one lovely chicken!
WitchHazel
I would guess that she is a pure breed Silver Sussex. The reason I say that is that the Pied Suffolk is a hybrid, which means they don't come true to breed - i.e. if you mate a male Pied Suffolk and a female Pied Suffolk, you won't get a Pied Suffolk chick. To get Pied Suffolks you have to breed from whatever the crossing breeds are (Rhode Island and something else I expect, sorry I don't know). It seems unlikely (although not impossible) that you would have a pied suffolk egg unless it had come from one of the places that breed them commercially. Whichever she is, she looks absolutely gorgeous!
CockADoodleDoo
yeh its probably along the line of a reverse sussex, pied suffork or silver sussex but the question is whitch one? lovely girl though!
Karen Pimlott
looks like a hybrid... we call them magpies but i think a suffolk & all the other names are one & the same. Its not a pure bred sussex, wrong leg colour for a start. Looks as though it will make you a nice bird though K
