alison
Apart from Thornes, who are brilliant, but their hens get sold very quickly, and I can't always get there when they have them. Is there anywhere else people would recommend in Herts? ( Maybe Bucks, Beds - 50 mile radius of St Albans) I am not impressed with Woodside Wild Fowl, their hens looked depressed and smell. Notcotts is awful, poorly kept, rough looking chooks. I want to add three more POL to make 8 in my cube. Or, is there anyone who sends them, that is highly recommended? Thank you

superjules
Alison, I can tell you of lots of places I wouldn't go! I have heard good things about Hens for Homes but I haven't been there myself. Other than that I wouldn't recommend anywhere other than Thorne's. lisa33
My three all came from Woodside and I've never had any problems with them. Although I have never been back there since I got them.
alison
Thanks! any one heard of Stagenhoe chickens? Thornes are the best, but I can't queue upon a saturday morning before they openas Frank said happens!
fairyegg
I've just got my 2nd batch of chickens from Stagenhoe Farm and they are great! All Point of Lay. Tim & Jo are both very informative and are very helpful. They are properly registered with DEFRA and unlike alot of other chicken suppliers I've found, Stagenhoe give their chickens full vaccinations, which I think is so important. The prices are good too, considering other suppliers and that these are all vaccinated and look and feel so healthy. I would defo recommend Stagenhoe Farm, as the chickens are so full of good life and lively and are kept in a large barn/open but covered deep straw beds - and yep, it is really inviting to roll yourself through the straw and make your own bed! I do feel a bit guilty as my hens only get the grass and mud to walk on and not the luxury of tonnes of straw! The contact details for Stagenhoe Farm in Whitwell are: 077785 19569 or the house phone is: 01438 871 694. Let me know what you think of Stagenhoe if you visit them/get some from there. All my chickens defo have a different personalities! One loves to bounce and sprint everywhere, another follows me everywhere. Lovely range of types/colours too. Thornes do seem great, but they are expensive and you have to que up early in the morning on a particular day... Enjoy!
