GreenGirl
My girls will have had their one week 'containment' on Sunday and I am keen to let them out and about . I have some of the omlet netting to keep them away from gaps under some fencing, but my 12 week old Titania has already showed her prowess in flying, taking off from the door of the cube to the end of the run and back again, so I don't think the netting will help! Is there a minimum age I should clip the wings, and does it really work? Or any alternatives? Thanks!
RubyReckless
I do it as soon as i get the girls - if they have flight feathers, it's fine to trim them. It really does work, keeping them lopsided when they flap which reduces the height they can reach.
finger lickin good
We clipped our girls as soon as we got them, but i am just wondering if we will need to do it again and when. Any advice would be great.
chooklady
We did ours straight away and have not had any problems with escape attempts. I assume I'm right in thinking you only need to clip their wings after their annual moult. I'm sure someone with more experience than me will correct me if I'm wrong. Gamebird
I have my girls in an enclosure of 50m of electric fencing. This has so far kept the foxes out 100% but two of my girls have not yet realised the safety of the fencing and have flown over the netting. Needless to say I have clipped their wings and this seems to have done the trick. I will need to do them again after their moult.
Dinkychick
mine got clipped about 3 weeks ago but one of them still seems to "fly" up to 4ft in the air! Im hoping if i feed her enough she wont be able to get so high lol.
