I only get these near the chick coop and run when bring the chick food in late.

Went out to the pub, girls put themselves to bed, and I did not shut them up until 11am.

I found one in the feeder yuk (Did not see it until I got in the kitchen) :vom:

I have an electric fence round the hen house, so don't know if this puts them off.

DM should work as it dries 'em up.

I do get slugs else where in my garden, but I also have hedgehogs, so they keep the population under control.

Yuk - slugs. I hate them. As we back on to allotments one way and a nature reserve the other we get loads, but fortunately the chucks seem to love them. They tore one to bits between them the other morning.

Couldn't help thinking about it as I looked down at the sliced mushrooms in the risotto I made last night... :(

please can you help me on how to stop them getting everywhere!!

they're horrible aren't they?! I have the same problem. I don't have a solution per se, but if you can be bothered with my method and don't mind slug murder, it's worth a try. I keep a rinsed out, 2 pint, plastic milk bottle in the run so its handy all the time. It's half full of water to which I have added quite a healthy dose of salt (approx 2 dsp) and I keep the lid on!

In the run I also have some kitchen tongs which are mostly for pooh picking. On these wet nights when the slugs are out and heading up the mesh towards the food after dark, if I come home late, I just use the tongs to pick up the slugs (i get HUGE 3 or 4 inch ones - no way my girls would eat 'em) and put them in the salty water and put the lid on. They die in the salt water very quickly and after a week or so I throw the lot away. The water gets pretty smelly so opening it after a week or 2 becomes intolerable! Don't be tempted to leave the lid off. Murphy's law dictates you will then knock it over and as well as a disgusting soup of dead slug, worse still, the salt water will soak into the ground and kill the worms directly in its path. I know, I've done it and felt very guilty.

Obviously, it's a bit of an effort to do this, but I prefer it to the beer traps method as I find them so vile to clear up and getting rid of slugs is a war of attrition - you will eventually notice you are winning if you keep at it.

good luck!

LG
