The Dogmother
I love the smell of them, but can see how it could be too much for some people. I love getting flowers.
chickencam
We had several pots with lilies in this summer and last, I hate the smell too I had never heard the thing about cats, I wonder if it is only certain cats because mine have been fine, but I don't think I will keep the lilies for next year just in case. It was my ED who first planted them in the pots because she loves them We had some given to us in a bouquet a couple of months ago and I had to take them outside in the end because the smell was so overpowering. Louise
Its only Tiger Lillies that are dangerous to cats I have lots of lillies and love them all Different types do have very different scents and there are some varieties that don't smell at all
Ana's flock
I'm with Olly in that I prefer my flowers in the plant rather than cut. I don't have a problem with the smell of lilies but I seem to be terribly allergic to them as in the moment I enter a room where there are some I'll start sneezing, eyes watering, nose running and face itching like mad. I can't even use any detergents, softeners or cleaning products with the word 'Lily' printed on the label! I didn't know they were bad for cats - thanks for the advice! MadMitch
Just hijacking this post for a minute. Whilst on the subject of bad things for cats. Something else which is very dangerous for cats and dogs (my vet has had several cases this year) is the chocolate smelling coco type stuff that people put on the top of plant pots and flower beds as a mulch. This is extremely toxic for them and can result in death.
ajm200
I hate the smell of them, jasmine and carnations.. Mum insists on buying me lilies and carnations all the time as they are her favourites..
superjules
I love lilies. When I have them in the house I usually cut the polleny bits off to stop it staining but it doesn't normally affect the smell.
