xChicken04x
Hi all, a friend of mine was at the stables this morning, mucking out her horses as usual. The local pheasants strutted along in the field next to the stables as usual, waiting to be fed by my friend (she feeds all the local wildlife, including the foxes .) She went to get the food out of the stables to feed the pheasants when she noticed an odd one out. She thinks it's a chicken. I haven't seen it, but she has described it as "colourful with very long legs." She is positive it isn't a pheasant, she has been feeding them for years and years. She thinks it has come from a man who used to breed chickens, but let them go on the fields for the foxes when he was 'done' with them . I'm going to look through my chicken breeds book with her to see if she recognises it. Now, my question. I don't mind taking it in and rescuing it from the local foxes, but do you think that is fair? Maybe it likes living wild? Do you think taking it away from acres of fields and putting it in a 24ft by 12ft run is fair? There is a pretty big chance of the foxes getting it though... I also understand it would need quarantining and it could also be a cockerel, due to the "colourful" description... What do you think? xx
dancing cloud
So chickens of fate can come in more colours than ginger! I guess the first step is to try and identify it. If it is a chicken and it's in danger, and you are able to take it in, I'd almost certainly be offering it a home if I were you, but then I'm soppy that way. Anything in my garden that looks hungry gets food and a bed (except humans, who can go home and feed themselves ). Keep us posted - we're all intrigued now

HENthusiastic
I'd love to have a chicken of fate find its way to me. Would be lovely to take her in and care for her. And something mysterious about the fact that you will NEVER know what she has been up to in her journey to your door. Whats happeningwith the colourful chicken of fate? C.C.O.F.
