davtat67
Hi everyone , (yes another newbie ) having kept chickens for quite a while we have now got 8 mixed breed ducks . one of which recently is having problems staying on its feet it can walk without limping swim ok and is eating fine but when standing its legs are shaking and is sitting down again as quick as poss then heavy breathing as if in distress, we cleaned all of our sheds at the weekend and sprayed with duramitex as there was a small problem in a nearby shed but all of our other stock is ok we dont think it has anything to do with the spraying . can anyone advise us please . many thanks Dave & Lynn

Guest
HI have just joined as am like everyone else saving for a cube! Now with ducks they are very prone to leg feet problems. They can get corns and sores on their feet which from my experience are hard to treat! As they still always want to go out with their counterparts(to keep just one in may cause them stress) A day in is probably a good idea. As we know they love mud/water and depending on the breed ie Aylesbury or campbells can be a hefty bird! The other thing is if htey are out with wild mallards they may try to mate with your domesticated ducks so injury can occur here! Agree cant discount mites and a vet but an awful lot of vets are not use to seeing ducks/poultry and you could end up with a nice vet bill. Unfortunately ducks do go lame. Hopefully it will just be temporary as I have had ducks that have miraculously recovered but if a duck or chicken is that ill the kindest thing is to get it dispatched. Sorry to be so negative but its a catch 22 situation..rest or stress? good luck indie.

rusky123
One of my drakes had this problem, it turned out he had a massive injury to his chest. We could not see any injury until it was too late. Take your duck to the vet for a checkover. Hope all goes well
