Ukadex query

Recommended Posts

My mum is having quite a time of it at the moment. She has three hens, Geraldine's broody and Alice her baldy ex-batt has been continually pecked on the bott by Poppy. Had just been her new feather quils plucked out but now it's progressed to a rather sore red bott that is now bleeding. She now has a temp home in the shed. (Spookily happens a few days after my Babs gets a bleeding botty too - is there something in the air?)

Anyway, I'm going to apply Ukadex to my Babs' bott at the weekend as she should have completely healed by then but will swing by tonight to give it my mum to apply to her Alice first.

Our query is - is it ok to apply ukadex on sore/broken skin? (Scabs should be gone but obviously a little tender and sprayed purple to deter the 'blood lust')

I've managed to get hold of a paper suit to wear and will be wearing a hat and gloves too. From what I've heard this is going to reek. Just don't want to hurt our girls further if it stings or turns a healing area even more sore.

Thanks

Stacey

I have on my girl Gladys as she was the culprit, but she couldn't eat due to her stubby beak. (Ex-batt) Found them really difficult to put on too though. Am bringing round bumpa bits for my mum to try on her girls aswell though.

Thanks for the reply, may recommend my mum wait a few days for Alice's bott to heal a bit more before applying it.

Ok, update

Turns out Alice wasn't as badly pecked as I thought. Tiniest scab, but mostly just red and a bit sore looking. So my mum sprayed her with Ukadex :vom:

Phew - it whifs!

Anyway, Poppy gave her bott a peck (out of habit really) then withdrew, wiped her beak on the floor repeatedly then promptly walked off to other side of the pen. So funny to watch. Looked like a marmite haters reaction in those adverts! LOL. Broody Geraldine had been turfed of the nest again so she thought she'd have a go. Similar reaction. Seems to be working a treat.

My mum informs though that the next morning their house smelled so bad she was worried we were 'gassing them', they couldn't escape fast enough. Poppy spent the night as far away from poor alice as possible - almost out the door if she could! (Nothing could deter Broody Geraldine though  )

Seems to be working anyway.

How long does the stink last? Cuddles are a no-no for a while hey?

My turn to spray Babs this weekend. Poor stinky chickens.
