My Dad never throws anything away and once stopped the car (on a dark, wet night) to take an old door out of a skip

 

I was aged about 15 at the time and it was the ULTIMATE embarrassment for me, obviously far too hip and trendy for those sorts of shenanigans .at that age.

 

I still remind him about it now and he says he'd do it again !

Hm. I am inclined to agree with you on the wood smuggling front, we have a woodburner and require free wood whenever we can find it! I WAS 15 when my dad performed this task but I'm now not adverse to a bit of 'skip diving' myself, however the ones I find are usually full of concrete and nothing exciting to be found!

 

Maybe I need to invest in a van and follow your example......
