Electricbarbarella
It is covered, In fact I have taken the covers off today int he hope that will dry it out a bit, I have put some slabs down inside, under the water, the perch and the food iyswim. I dont really think I am up to putting it on slabs myself. Am I correct in thinking wood chip is ok if it gets wet?
Electricbarbarella
Oh and norfolk a tad too far but thanks for the offer, I am not sure my litte car would get from B & q round the corner with slabs. Yolky my girls are great except for the lice.
Sandychick
I cant seem to dry the run out, it was on aubiose but it has got so wet that it is just a pit of squelchy stuff now, not quite sure what to do about it, any ideas? I've had the same problem. The run is well covered, but the surrounding ground is so wet it just seaps in through the ground until they are in a squelchy mud bath. I tend to wait until a few dry days are forecast, then add a layer of Auboise to the run. That soaks up all the damp / mud. Then rake it out the next day and put some fresh stuff in. Slabs seem a good long term solution, but as mine are under some trees it would be a nightmare to lay slabs because of all the tree roots
alih
I have mine on woodchip for that reason - it's great and doesn't hold the damp as much as auboise.

helenmb
I found Hemcore very good (from the pictures on the forum is looks to have bigger pieces to it than the Aubiose too) - my local stockist didn't have Aubiose. I found that it works really well and was easily compostable too as I used to change periodically especially during the winter because of the rain etc. Edited - Should have also mentioned that Hemcore has Citronella added to is which helps with minimising flies and it smells nice too. VicW
ugh. mine is all muddy too as we seemed to have picked the spot in the field where all the water accumulates!! (Only just got the field so didn't know!) Moving it this weekend and going to try a mixture of slabs and woodchip (half and half - just for variety you know!) Been feeling v sorry for the poor chooks this week though and I haven't even been able to let them free range much this week, poor sausages. Electricbarbarella
I am hoping we have finally got rid of them this week, but they are very persistent, only one chook though which is odd. I am going to get wood chip and give that a try, we have actuially dried it out ab bit this week with the wind. Can you hose wood chip down (dont know where i read this).
