Lydia
Thanks for reminding me as I had completely forgotten my jab was due tomorrow morning See, always trust the Omlet forum - it works! PS, have had the jab for years and no ill effects, bar a sore arm for a bit.
herbalgirl
Hi There The flu jab is based on the virus for the previous year so usually has limited protection. Also I find it very strange that they vaccinate people with compromised immune systems. Think about it?!! If your immune system is not working properly, why would you introduce a virus directly into the blood stream (not the usual route of the illness) which challenges your immunity? Weird... If you have compromised immunity the best way you can prevent yourself getting ill is: Rosehip syrup/powdered natural vitamin c/fresh oranges Zinc supplements Healthy balanced diet with little dairy Limit sugar Take adaptogens such as siberian ginseng/licquorice/astragalus in liquid tincture form not tablets - see www.rutlandbio.com or have a look for a herbalist on the National Institute of Medical Herbalists Website who can advise. I stongly disagree with flu jabs for the elderly, I think they set up chronic disease processes in the majority of people and can mark the beginning of a serious downturn in health for many. Oh well.... whilst the pharmaceutical companies are making money and sponsor many of the degree courses for medics I guess we'll all have to put up with getting skewed information!! Hi, The flu vaccine is perfectly safe for those with reduced immune system because it's not a live vaccine - I can't have live vaccines (such as the polio vaccine) as they would literally infect me, whereas the flu one is fine, and is recommended by my consultant, as the risks of actually getting the flu or a bad cold are far more dangerous! BarbaraJ
Nope never had one. probably not legible but never had flu so don't really feel the need. Work with kids and think i'm mainly immune to cold/flu bugs now after 20years.
Cinnamon
Nope never had one. probably not legible but never had flu so don't really feel the need. Now you see, if you had had flu, you would want the jab.Its vile. I am not eligible, but don't want it again so I pay to get it done. I had mine today & have a bit of a sore arm,but am happy I shall probably be flu free this year

Becky As someone with a severely compromised immune system I have to strongly disagree. Omletina is correct - the flu jab is not live and is therefore not going to challenge your immunity. I cannot have live jabs either for the same reason. Proper flu is not just a really bad cold, it can be a killer. If the elderley and those people at risk did not have the flu jab there is a much greater chance of them getting flu and therefore taking up hospital beds and that is cost more than the jab. I agree that a healthy balance diet can help your immunity. However, while there is a place for herbalism it is most definitely not a substitute for antibiotics. For myself my body does not produce enough white blood cells and therefore does not fight infection properly. Without antibiotics I would simply not be here at all. I'm fully aware that my drugs won't work forever and fully expect to die well before I'm 50, however, they've given me nearly 35 years of life I wouldn't have had so far.
