Redwing
When I picked up my girls I noticed that one was more developed than the other two. Bren has only been with me for 10 days but she has laid me two eggs in three days! My OH said my face was an absolute picture when I found the first one as it was so unexpected We got the second one yesterday and we knew it was coming as Bren kept going in and out of the Eglu and was gathering up wood chippings and putting them in the nestbox. My Oh joked that she needed a newspaper to help her concentrate I was upstairs and heard her yelling so went down and outside to find a still warm egg waiting. I have put both eggs in an egg box and can't bring myself to eat them! both weighed in at 50g but I am guessing they will get bigger in time? Redwing
I had another egg yesterday but it was the smallest yet and a different colour I dont suppose I can celebrate two layers yet...can I?
mostin
They can change alot in colour and size when they are just starting to lay. The only way to really be certain who is laying what is to see who goes in and out of the nest box.

In a very weird way I "luckily" got glandular fever just as I got my chickens so got to spend alot of time watching them in the first few weeks. I can tell you on average how long each one takes to lay, and what their usual time of day is. It's awful now I'm back at work . Although nice to be healthy again. mostin
Glandular fever is horrible, glad you are on the mend! Tell me about it, I'm 31 and married. I should have had this when I was young and stupid and at Uni. People keep accusing me of catching it by snogging 17 year old boys, I wish I think we should start a national petition for henternity leave, as anybody knows that when you get your first girls it is mandatory to watch them 24/7.
