Watery fluid in droppings tray

Recommended Posts

For some time now I have been finding what I thought was water in the droppings tray every morning. However I realise it is not a leak in the cube as it is there whether it has rained or not.

So, one of my hens is passing a large amount of watery fluid overnight, about 100ml. Although I do find the odd softie, this seems different, just like water. What could this be? Two of them are going through a moult but they all seem fairly healthy. I wormed them a couple of months ago with flubenvet and I seem to have sorted out the redmite problem I had in August. I suspect it might be one of my ex batts but I can't be sure.

The droppings tray has been smelling particularly foul at the same time. Any ideas?

This can be due to a bacterial infection which makes the urate (white bit) turn runny. Our Krasi had this following a little prolapse. She was fine in every other way, except for her vent being white pasty & the wet in the poo tray. 5 days of yoghurt (about a tbsp per day) can remedy this by increasing the good bacteria. If it gets worse again, a trip to the vet for antibiotics/further investigation would be wise.

Other people maight have other info.

Thanks Fur'n'Feathers. It's been going on over a month so and this morning there were 2 separate puddles of clear fluid, one in each of the droppings trays. As I don't know which one it is, if they are all eating and happy then I won't take them to the vet unless any of them start to look under the weather. If no one on the forum knows what it is then I doubt my urban vet will! I'll try the yoghurt though, can't do any harm.
