Cinnamon
My eldest ,who is 15,has been at work experience in The Body Shop all week this week. She has enjoyed it,despite spending most of her time taking things off the shelves, cleaning the shelf & stocking it back up This morning however she has woken with a rotten cold, so has dosed up with Lemsip & is still going in,despite my instincts to keep her home & warm Her feet are killing her, from standing all day as opposed to sitting all day at school. And she is fed up with wandering around reading for an hour each lunch time, with no one to chat to. Its never to early to taste what life is like when you have to go out & work for a living,is it? The Dogmother
It'll do her good Hon and help her to appreciate what she's got.
bronze
If it helps her feel better last night I found myself with gastroenteritis and woke up this morning feeling tender to a small girl who had taken her nappy off and smeared it everywhere. Sometimes life just doesnt stop around you. She has my complete sympathy.
Mutrix Farmers
I'm sure children think that work is really exciting but the harsh reality is quite different. Son keeps asking how much I earn, haven't told him as he really has no concept of the value of anything larger than £10, so even my pittance would seem like fortune to him. Hope your daughter enjoys the week more than she hates it Cinnamon and her cold gets better soon.
Cinnamon
I just met her for lunch, & whilst she is 'suffering' a bit,the staff have been really nice to her,& gone a got her cough sweets I am all for her finding out about work & independence the hard way - does them no harm at all And I think the pleasures of window shopping in Reading have faded now after several lunch breaks, which can't be a bad thing

Seagazer
Bless her, I hope she's better soon. That's what got me when I worked in a shop a few years back, my legs and feet were killing me at the end of the day. My ES has had a few colds since starting work, a couple of days he had to have off as he could hardly move, but I've had to tell him you just can't take time off as easily as at school. Felt very harsh
kitbag
I did my work experience back in May!! I know how she feels!! that was exactly what i had to do - taking things off shelves cleaning it, putting it back on the shelve... I hardly got to sit down, and only got half an hour lunch breaks! I had a good time though!1 xxxxxx

Cinnamon
That sounds nice - I know Pangbourne quite well, its a gorgeous little town. Devon was given a glowing report by The Body Shop, a basket of goodies as a thank you & has been offered weekend work when she is
kitbag
She is very lucky to have been offered a job! I wrote them a letter saying thank you very much for having me and I love a job if the opportunity ever arose. The next thing I know, I am in their saying hi, and have they got any jobs. I actually found out that they have had two jobs up for grabs, but they had filled both of them!! I coulden't believe it!! I'm still looking for a job!! Bloomin' heck!! redhotchick
The company I work for has had many work experience people over the years. I sympathise with the "taking things off the shelves, cleaning them and putting them back". It can be difficult to find a suitable role for some one who is only going to be there for a week. I work in a fairly technical role and we try to find varied and interesting work. The staff who have been working with them may take them out for lunch on the last day (my section do ), I think they get a small monetary "thank you" too. It's unfortunate that Devon had a cold. You really wouldn't want to be off sick for a couple of days out of one significant week. She did well to go in. (I wouldn't normally condone going into work when ill). My lunch times go way too fast though! Edited to correct name! I realised I had done this, but I'd logged off already (sorry!) I have lots of broken thread veins in my legs after a couple of years working in a shop when I left college. They were nothing compared to the legs of some of the lontimers. Half an hour is nothing new. I would love half an hour now
Old Speckled Hen
My eldest ,who is 15,has been at work experience in The Body Shop all week this week. Its never to early to taste what life is like when you have to go out & work for a living,is it? Just as well kids have this opportunity these days; an impetus perhaps to seek a career in which they are fulfilled and happy so that each working day is a joy not a drudge. ubereglu
Devon was given a glowing report by The Body Shop, a basket of goodies as a thank you & has been offered weekend work when she is 16 I was given a good report too when my teacher came in to see how I was doing on the Thursday last week-it was quite funny having her come in as you could tell that my supervisor-although working with people all day as an optometrist-was uncomfortable and didn't really want to have to do the meeting!!! The basket of goodies sounds nice, in exchange for my week I got experience and decided I want to do optometry...but when I get a new pair of glasses they will do me thinned lenses at no extra cost though-my sight averages at +7.5, hence the lenses are rather thick, especially in the middle due to my long sightedness. Also have the offer of a free contact lens trial-not sure about this though...I'm happy with my glasses! If there's space I can go back in summer though and Ben said he'd write me a reference too!
