Cube here plus 2 girls!!

Recommended Posts

Well I started to put (cube green) together whilst Hubby and daughter travelled back from Thornes 80+ miles each way. They were really impressed with hens Hubby reckoned best place he'd seen and Karl couldn't have been more helpful.

He would go back there even though a bit of a trek.

On their return put the 2 girls in rabbit run and gave them some rations whilst we completed the (cube green) together.

On completion tried to transfer girls seamlessly to (cube green) from rabbit run, did not quite go to plan Speckledy Peggy stayed in run quite happy whilst Skyline Bonny (SAS Andy McNab chicken) did re-run of 'Great Escape' closely followed by concerned (not that concerned my chicken is the Speckledy one) Hubby as we did not want to scare her but wanted her to be safe instead she made a dash towards field end of garden Hubby cut her off and (expertly) guided her back towards house luckily shed light on and door open so she ended up in there and Hubby collected her eventually and placed her straight in cube as by this time it was dark.

Two new ladies settled for the night (no doubt hatching latest escape plan). Off to collect remainder of flock tomorrow morning.

Thanks for all the good wishes.

Yes both girls from Thornes.

Hubby has checked Bonny GNR & Peggy (Bluebelle) several times already just to make sure they are ok using excuses like need to show the son on his return from town, halloween rabble may have made too much noise etc.... :shh:

Will take more photos tomorrow when light.

We now have 5 girls in our flock, got PP Maran Cuivre Darcy, PP Magpie Not named as yet son can't decide and GNR Rhode Star Emma, from Thornes this morning so all 5 are from there and similar sizes etc. :)

Got home and added the new PPPPGNR to our GNR(Bluebelle) from yesterday gave them pumpkin and pumpkin mash before bed then sat looking out as they took the first steps up to bed by themselves No name PP and Bonny GNR joint first, followed by the Emma GNR and Peggy (Bluebelle) then coming in finally Darcy PP.

Hubby rushed out in pouring rain and quickly closed the door before they changed their minds.

Looking forward to henwatch day tomorrow as do not need to go out again.

Hi it's Patricia again,

Pardon me for being nosey, but did you go back to Thorne's to get the other three today? I may have misunderstood this but it looks as though you got the Maran Cuivre, the Magpie and the Rhode Star from Thornes today and the other two from Thornes yesterday.

Not that it matters of course. Congratulations on all 5. I can't wait to get my flock, will have to wait at least until the Spring before I get my cube and pullets, to get them now I would have to take out a chicken mortgage. :boohoo:

Patricia,

Yes went back again today to pick up latest three from Thornes. After all why travel 20 miles to buy chickens, when you can travel more than 80 miles each way. However, they all appear fit and healthy, we thought, why not. Anyway all the new ladies have settled down for the night. First two (Bluebelle)GNR (who arrived yesterday) have assumed command from the outset. Hubby has changed (Bluebelle) name for the third time and has settled on Émilie and named GNR Jenny. Whilst son has finally decided to call his PP Joséphine.
