I'm just intrigued at the guy who said he'd been given two worn out eglus. How did they 'wear out'. Ok, I have heard accounts of the clips breaking etc and they probably aren't up for the job once they've ended up frozen etc in winter in the US, but you'd expect that anyway.

OMG what are they on ive got 2 eglus one for the other for Plus a cube with 6 hens and l love them it took me 2 mins today just clean the ducks.They look great and the animals loves them.Even tho ive had the eglus for 3 years l still love the look of them.A wooden coop would not be for me in my garden as having the omlet ones makes me enjoy my hobby even more.I just hated reading them posts on the other hand if they want mites and the up keep thats there miss out.Me lm 110% happy with mine and l love this site and my fellow omleters

Thank you for that Redwing Although in hindsight, this morning I'm feeling like more a trouble maker or a gossip if you will. My intention were pure, but I'm feeling like maybe I'm just a bit sensitive.

 

My post on BYC (although not my intent) called one of the posters a liar ie., "False Statement" I do feel however if one is going to give a critique on a product "Ive been given two that have worn out" it shouldn't give the poster of the question the impression that it was a fault with the Eglu rather how it was being used and or maintained. I don't believe it would be the responsibility of the reader to ask for clarification, but more the responsibility of the critic to disclose ALL information.

 

Oh well, live and learn, I guess.

I wouldn't worry about it Mark, that poster was obviously prone to complete exaggeration (sp??) I mean if the Eglu door had broken that smacks of ham fisted handling and the Eglu cannot be classed as a 'worn out' product and it would be very hard for the wind to shift one!

 

Exaggeration for fun is ok e.g "I seem to be getting a zillion eggs a week!" but when it runs down a product that is well researched and sells well with a loyal and satisfied customer base its not ok

 

 

Perhaps the poster has learned not to exaggerate quite so much in future

Just logged on to this site, and found on the left hand side of the home page, listed in the adverty bit, one omlet.co.uk - sounds familiar........... , also Golden Valley Poultry where my 3 ladies came from!

 

Am off to investigate the cobblers in the forum..back in a bit!

My oh my, does that sound like a guilty conscience or what?

 

If he had given the full info in the first place, than most of the clarifications would have been unnecessary - and from what I glean from the thread, it's not the Eglu which is the problem with the predators, it's the run. But what on earth did the boy do to the door to snap it off?

 

I have to say that the clips on my previously loved Eglus have snapped quite quickly, but as someone has said, cable ties or similar are perfectly adequate substitutions {mental note to self - must go round & check the run as I noticed at least one more had popped off the last time I moved it!!}. Little pieces of plastic like the clips don't last forever - any numpty knows that don't they?

 

Anyway, I think a fairly even account has now been given to the uninitiated of that forum - keep talking to us Mark, we're very happy to have "across the pond" chats!

The poster obviously doesn't like the eglu and wanted to sound off.

 

His total retraction of the first statement was proof of this. It wasn't a clarification ... it was total back-tracking.

Hmmmmmmmm.... Ducks? Never thought of ducks. How do raising duck compare to chickens? I'm sure they lay eggs..Can you eat them? How do they taste? How ducks noisier than chickens?

When your cube arrives you can use the Eglu for ducks! (wouldn't want it to go to waste or anything...)

 

I was planning on using it for introductions, but you might be onto something here. Can chickens and ducks be kept in the same large walk in run? I know ducks need access to water, and I was thinking maybe a small childs pool. Would that be dangerous for the chickens?

Ive got my chickens and ducks in big walk in runs next to each other but were going to put a roof between them so they can mix.They are noisyer at times it depends on what breed you go for, ive got calls and indian runners and the calls are noisyer when they are quaking or tho its not really quake.The eggs taste great my runners are laying nice big eggs were the chickens have now mostly stopped for the winter.Id recommend ducks a children pool would be fine or tho they can be messy on dirt ours are on slabs and l clean the floor daily.Hope this helps

Thanks. They are monsters though and totally spoilt. Hubby says that they are treated better than some of the children at school.

Oh my goodness are they noisy. Mum-in-law collected some ducks a few months ago and asked me to clip their wings for her. We were in my garden for less than an hour with them and my poor neighbours who love the hens were so worried in case we were keeping them. Picture four Indian runner ducks with their bills to the ground like vacuum cleaners constantly going ouack, ouack, ouack (more acurate than quack) for the duration.

 

And the mess...Ahhhhhh!!!
