egg weights

Recommended Posts

We have had an egg laid by Henrietta hen which weighed over 2 ozs. It is bigger than an extra large egg from the supermarket. Dont forget our hens only started layng this week, that why we still have some bought ones in the cupboard... What is that in grams or whatever it is being used for the egg leader boards? Thanks Sue

we got some sclales that does weigh in grams and it was 65 grams. Roz has took a picture of it sitting in the scles pan,and she will be mailing it to me soon so i will put it on my collietalk then. It is a whopper compared to the others we have had so far. It is our 8th egg. Fifth from Henrietta

Henrietta is a Miss Pepperpot, if the eggs from her are this big, i wonder what size the Faverolles will lay...........We got another 65 gram one today and a smaller one from Hermione, hers are a slightly ligher shade of brown as well. I didnt realize you could tell who laid the egg by the colour of it......

You might find that the bigger birds and the pure breeds lay smaller eggs! Hybrids like the pepperpot and particularly the gingernuts lay whoppers! The average weight for one of my GNRs is 80g, the other GNR and the PP lay 70g daily. Out of 10 chickens, I can always tell exactly who has laid each egg :D

True - they get enormous! Our 23 month old Warren (like a gingernut or ginger ranger) lays only 3 times a week but they are always between 75 and 125 grams.

I think an ounce is 28g. something irritating like 28.349 grams exactly, but the roundings up and down are usually 1oz = 25g, 2oz = 50g, 3oz = 75g, 4oz = 125g. (I do a lot of baking, can you tell? )
