arwenskye
Just when we thought things wre going well with our lovely ladies!, 3 lovely eggs every day I let them out to free range this morning and whilst I was inside after lunch, Mr fox came and killed one of them! The other 2 are distressed but unharmed, they are now back in he run and free ranging will be limited, which is a great shame as I loved watching them from a window just potter around the garden
Gamebird
I am so very sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately, it is a constant battle to protect your chickens from foxes. I nearly lost one of my girls to a fox whilst they were free ranging and since then I have kept mine behind an electric fence enclosure and so far this seems to have worked. I should warn you that now the fox knows you have chickens he could well come back for more. Please be vigilent.
Ain't Nobody Here
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that . Thank goodness two of your girls at least are safe but what a shame about their wee friend .
Happy Hennie
Sorry to hear that Mr Fox takes another poor little hen. Mine only free range now when someone is home. I've heard that male urine put around your property boarders can be a good deterrent. Have to say, despite my best efforts the OH is not prepared to do the honours Think you need to be very vigilant now - I've even moved my Eglu Cube onto a stone patio as Mr Fox is just too clever. oeufingabout
How sad. Yes I had heard that one about male urine but it has to be male (preferably adult)and it only deters male foxes NOT Vixens. It is the testosterone they can smell. I did not realise foxes are out and about in the day it might have been a female Fox with young. Usually foxes are only out from dusk. Sadly, in a lot of built up areas, foxes have completely lost their fear of humans, so are out and about during the day and are not deterred by male urine. In some cases they have not even been deterred by the presence of a human in the garden So if you have seen foxes about in your area - they will be around even more when you get your chooks

Just so I can judge what type of fox did it .
