kitbag
I have a piano exam tomorrow! I can't do it either and the examiner is one of the worst feared by teacher and pupils across Berkshire! I have forgotten all my pieces, sscales and oral work! HELP! Just to make things worse, afterwards, i have a really hard maths exam, and a 10 minute bassoon solo! aarrrggghhh! Thank you for letting me get that out! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
chelsea
goodness me, sounds like a big day for you, especially with a maths exam on the same day (I hate maths!). All I can say is stay calm, try and cram in some revising tonight and get an early night and eat breakfast in the morning (apparently it makes your brain work better ) Good luck and let us know how you get on! ubereglu
Good luck for tomorrow. Try and relax, do a little bit more revision and go through your pieces again. Maybe have a nice bath too, then you'll feel a bit better about the situation. Best of luck! Liz
missuscluck
Wishing you lots and lots of luck. You CAN do it! Mt little girl (she is 10) took her clarinet grade 3 today. We have had a really hard time with it all and she changed teachers a few weeks ago. She has also taken her ballet exam and piano exam over the past two weeks so its all been a bit much. She threw a compleat wobbler 15 minuites before she was due to leave home and said she wasnt going to do it. She arrived at the exam in tears, did her practice with her pianist came out smiling because she was FAB. Went straght in and did the exam and came out on cloud 9. Fluffed a few bits but she did it and was happy enough with her performance. Just think how she would be feeling now if she had decided not to try. It dosent matter. All you can do is your best. You never know you might just do better than you expected. Good Luck! Go for it!

A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I agree with all the advice above. And something to remember to help take the fear factor out: Once upon a time, that feared examiner was a young person too. I bet they were bricking taking their exams, and I bet you're not rubbish at piano, it's just a bit scary taking exams for anyone. Try to think of that examiner as they were as a young person, just as nervous as anyone in an exam room, or in a silly displaced situation - maybe in a twirly bow tie, or even naked - something that will make you laugh and remind you that they are just like you, like all of us, only sitting behind a desk with a pen, and maybe a bit older. Something to take the fear away and remind you that they are just a person. And remember that they may look scary to you, but they don't mean to, and that they want you to do well. Where's the satisfaction in failing someone? They LOVE seeing people succeed - they are a part of that when they judge you, and they want you to do well. They can't help having a scary face! Good luck. Breathe deeply. You will be fine. Anna x

kitbag
ok guys - i'm back! The piano exam was absolutely awful - i had to re start two of my pieces, i had to skip a scale, and i played a major arpeggio instead of a minor one! I just kept smiling and she kept smiling back! Got maths to look forward to next! Can't wait! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
little chickadee
Hope you manage to pass the piano exam. When I had my Grade 5 piano exam it went so badly that I had tears running down my face while I was playing. (I always found the piano really really hard but had to get grade 5 to get into teacher training college to specialise in music) I had never been so sure I'd failed anything in my life, but..... I got 101 marks (pass mark 100) Couldn't believe it Hope you're that lucky

A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Ah, see a smile! That's a good thing. Was it a bassoon exam? I always found blaming a dodgy/hard reed helped a little. I spent an inordinate amount of time faffing with my oboe reeds in exams. They do take nerves into account. Good luck with the maths! I have got grade 8 bassoon next term though!! I always get the useless reeds from the reed maker and it always seems to get worse whenever there is an exam Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Oooh very impressive! I love double reed instruments. Do you play in orchestras or small groups? I love the deep throaty tone of the bassoon. I could never get the hang of it though - there's a lot of stretching sometimes between the holes and keys isn't there? Can you test your reeds before purchase? Nothing like a rubbish reed to get on your nerves is there? Let us know how the maths goes! kitbag
done the maths!! I'm so glad thats over!! I had a little panic attack just before though! And the good thing is that the bassoon solo has been canceled!! Hooray!! I'm off to bed now ... Well maybe later actually!!! I always get the useless reeds from the reed maker and it always seems to get worse whenever there is an exam Xxxxxxxxxxxxxx You need to learn to make your own then. It's quite an art form. I lived with an oboe player for a while and much cursing went on! I played the Clarinet/Sax and most of the reeds in a box were fairly duff, but at least they didn't cost anywhere near the amount that double reeds do. Several of my friends had a really really good double reed teacher at school who made their reeds for them, but then they were really stuffed when they went to college because they were used to his excellent reeds and couldn't buy anything remotely as good anywhere else
